It is real, but even if it wasn't we wouldn't be doing wrong by adopting a more environmentally friendly lifestyle.

Hang out for 40 years in northern latitudes, and you'd be less likely to ask that. In my lifetime I have seen species ranges extend north: critters previously limited by the cold. There's less snow and less cold. By 2040, they'll likely have to rename Glacier National Park (they're all melting).

The science is really really there supporting anthropogenic climate change. And the corporate driven PR campaign designed to confuse the public on the topic is now on overdrive. 20 years ago, global warming was well-accepted in most scientific circles (like it still is among most pure scientists), undisputed, but that was before the oil companies really hopped on the bandwagon, shot the drivers and dragged it in the other direction....
Not many folks talking about this yet, but you'll be hearing about it: methane releases. (google it, a scary new study was released in march) We dump 90 million tons a day of Co2 into atmosphere. About 25 million tons of it ends up sinking into oceans, helping to warm them up. This oceanic warming in turn is helping release methane bound on ocean floor. As a greenhouse gas, methane is about 30 times more powerful than Co2. And flammable. It ain't good. Also, methane releases are already happening in Alaska.
But Sarah Palin will probably tell ya that Alaskans are just happy to be able to use the methane to run their grills to cook moose brats.

I don't think any reasonable person disagrees that global warming is happening. The real debate is whether it is purely a result of mankind's use of environmentally destructive substances. Most people believe whatever the news tells them and there is no news in saying that the earth's warming is part of an historical trend. However, anyone who really cares about being a productive member of society ought to care about the possibility that man is certainly selfish enough to cause mankind's own destruction. To say it's 'stupid' reveals an unthoughtful character. Perhaps do some research and find some more intelligent questions to ask about the subject.
