One word: Industry.
The propagation of what defines beautiful has largely been dominated by more conventional european genetics.
It's illogical, but true.

I do not agree that black women are less attractive than any other race, IMO some of the most gorgeous women are dark-skinned: vanessa williams, gabriel union, tyra banks, rhianna, christina millian, jennifer hudson, neicy nash, Kelly Rowland, Solange Knowles, Keri Hilson...and MANY other women all around the world

however there are stereo-types and ignorant people that do send that message.. wonderboy for instance. This is a blog posted by a woman who actually argues a legitimate point.. this may be what blunder boy meant to touch on in his VERY poorly worded question.

I personally I prefer a pale brunette over any woman alive. However I have seen some black ladies that have made me trip over my own feet, drool, and look like a complete idiot. When they are hot they are insanely hot, Jada Pinkett-Smith: one of the hottest women alive! Really this question is borderline racist, there are beautiful people of all colors shapes and sizes, who cares if they are whatever or whatever.

Are you serious? You've got to be kidding. My youngest son thinks Michelle Obama is hot. He's as white as they come.

This question is ridiculous. Wonderboy all your talking points are all about pop culture and the usual stereotypes i see everyday from ignorant people. Stop talking about how unattractive people are and learn to appreciate whats really out there, and thats where you could see for yourself that all different types of ethnicities have beauty.

Hey everyone,
We've noticed that some of the conversation here is treading into "hitting below the belt". And a few comments even appear racist, which we absolutely do not tolerate at SoulPancake. This question clearly lands in really charged territory, and whether it was asked in the best way to address the idea of "standards of beauty" is really up to you all to discuss. However, on such a touchy subject, we ask that you double check yourselves, and choose your words carefully.
cheers,

I'm going to take a wild guess here just say that it probably has something to do with minorities being able to take liberties with their cultural freedom. Previously in history they were regarded as less than human so now that collectively, at least for the most part, have let go of racial intolerance and are accepting people regardless of their skin color we can now take the time to publicly admire the beauty of anyone. On top of that beauty is subjective... but the point I'm trying to make is that black woman haven't suddenly gotten more or less attractive, I'm willing to bet that generalized features of humans haven't changed much over the past few hundred years- only our perceptions about other human beings.

the typical idea of beauty is set at the white standard.
you must be this thin, your hair must look this "white"
there IS a valid point
just stems from the anglos conquering and converting cultures

Some of the most beautiful women I have ever seen have been the prune-black sub-Saharan women of Congo, Natal and Kenya. I think you have a very skewed definition of beauty.

I think the question is a little screwed up. It's a massive over generalization to wonder why black women aren't attractive. Maybe the question should have been "why aren't black women attractive TO ME?" Oh wait, if that was the question, then it really wouldn't have worked here, because it's a matter of PERSONAL OPINION! It is kind of funny when someone thinks that their view is the only correct one. Just sayin' :)

I have never shared this perception of beauty as an adult. And I'm a 58-year-old Caucasian from California.

Perhaps some African American women have felt this way, and perhaps the poser of this question has felt undervalued as a woman of color?
