we loved it - had a great time, loads of laughs, and went out in the evening looking for a good value restaurant - the great veggie Indian in Euston I suggested was too full so we walked on until we eventually found somewhere people could all agree looked OK...
we had a great meal and several drinks - and on a whim I went to speak to the waitress who was a charming beautiful Romanian Girl - I don't know if she was just being nice to me - but she was adding the bill up and it looked so small so on my second whim I just settled the whole bill and a tip.
When we were all finished everyone started doing that wallet shuffle and wondering if we were going to divide it up equally or by actual amount etc...
It was nice to be able to just say
Don't worry, its all taken care of... lets go have some fun!

Reading these stories is touching! It warms the heart. Those of you who have a hard time doing it....its a gift to others. Its a gift to yourselves. Ah dualism! Its BOTH. LOL

A long time ago I worked in a day-care center, where naps were part of the schedule.
After nap time, one little boy got and looked around, then scrunched up his little sheet
and tried to hide it. I saw he had wet his cot, and the look on his face was pure humiliation.
I took him aside where no one else would hear, and I told him that lots
of people wet the bed when they are young, but everyone stops
when they get just a little older, so he shouldn't worry about it.
I told him I had probably wet my bed when I was a kid, but I don't do it anymore.
When it was time to go home, he came over and gave me a tight hug,
for a long time. That's one of the best things I've done.

Oy... 7?? This is *really* tough for a self-deprecationist.

I tried. Canna do it on here (think I know why... but that's another issue entirely). But I promise, Michelle. Will do the exercise later today on some paper (which will promptly burn thereafter). I know. Freud's pro'lly got much to say about me, too. { ;

My great aunt was in a nursing home in Kansas. My family is spread far and wide: father in Las Vegas, sister in Seattle, me in Jersey City. It may sound odd to people with closer families, but it was an absolute epiphany in my own mind to travel to Kansas to be with my great aunt on her 100th birthday. It was such an odd thought that I was almost shy to tell my father and sister that I was planning to go. However, when I did tell them, especially my father, they took to the idea, and a family gathering was planned to be with her. It was a beautiful event that had healing implications for my family beyond that one visit.
