Why in seeking comfort do we sometimes give ourselves more discomfort?

I want to feel better and sugar immediately comes to mind, maybe tv, a movie or I just need more sleep, perhaps a nap. Initially my delighted taste buds wrap me in sweet comfort, my mind is wooed by moving images, or eased by shutting off completely with sleep. But in the end I sometimes feel worse, fatter from too much sugar, depressed from random messages I was absorbing from tv and lazy from oversleeping. How confusing!? I want clear cut comfort, why does it have to turn on me?

What do you think?
