Honestly, I think I'm far too kind to myself. I'm always pumping myself up. But, the nicest thing I have said to myself is...I think..."You can."

When I have done a good job, or finished a tough research project, I just say, "Damn, I'm good." Because, damn it, I am!

I think we do listen and it does hold meaning, but we like (maybe even need) to feel validated (reassured). When someone else says something nice to us, it feels different because we feel validated of what we probably already know but feel uncomfortable saying about ourselves.

I think it holds more meaning when you are able to listen and believe yourself as much as you may listen and believe the feedback of others.

I like to tell myself that I accept myself exactly as I am today.
And when I believe it, it feels great.

Something like this:
" And you know what? I deserve it! [ turns to his mirror ] Because I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and, doggonit, people like me! "--(Senator) Stuart Smalley
Actually, reminding myself that people that intend to fill my soul with negativity really don't matter in the long run, and I'm now to the point where the long run doesn't take nearly as long. I have access to people who know the difference between salt and sugar (;-D) and these are the ones who add value to life.

"It's fine the way it is. It looks great, you did a good job." For a perfectionist coming to terms with not-quite perfect as being not only good enough but awsome and acceptable... that's a good day for me.

And back on topic to your thread @littlehart , the nicest thing I've said to myself recently just occurred as a result of your post, that being, "Robin, you're an idiot."

Sometimes we don't listen to our self compliments because of remembered contradictions, and this has a thread of connection to what @BlueCrayon said.

Your true self is unaffected by the physical garment and the trials that arise from being connected to it, and as was illustrated so well yesterday with "The Wings of How" and "Wondering", the most important of things transcend it.
