Could you argue with your God?

Many of us grew up being told what our spriritual traditions meant. The 'truths' of our faiths were handed down from generation to generation. We weren't allowed to ask questions. When we did, the conversations were subtly steered back to what we were being taught. Has this lead to an inhibition of questioning God. Even more, can we argue with God when we don't see things the way He does. Is that crossing the line? Can He take it? How would He feel?

Absolutely. It would be to no avail, but most faiths allow for a healthy dialogue with whatever deity is in question. I believe you are of the Christian faith and so my answer would be a hundred times yes. Moses, the different Psalters (one being David), Job, Solomon, all questioned YHWH and cried out to him "Why!". Some received an answer, some didn't. I cry out all the time and I never hear any response. I can look to the text to find answers, and that happens. So I do believe that "arguing" can take place in a deity/human relationship. I just don't expect to win.

I do not think God is person-like. Questioning is natural and good, but I would be asking for understanding, not arguing. I might plead, but I do not challenge or question God's decisions or ways. I do not "join partners" with Him as if we were equals.

i could, but arguing with yourself gets so frustrating...

I'm no theist, but any deity I can imagine would be more than capable of handling my wrath.

I assume that if a God-person exists, he/she would be without ego and so would welcome any question we had.

arguing with God is not without precedent. Abraham argues for Sodom and Gomorrah to not be destroyed. Kept bargaining down the number of righteous that must be found. Jacob wrestled with the angel (ok not exactly God, but the representative. Satan argued on at least a couple of occasions, notably during Job and again in the wilderness. God can be challenged, and it takes a wise and brave person to do it. But one could gather (if someone adheres to the Bilblical records) that God actually gives magnificent rewards to those (well, humans at least) that do confront Him.

You can always ask:
"Hey, can you (god) create a rock so heavy that not even you can lift?"

"..... so you're not really omnipotent, then?"

I do not think God is person-like. Questioning is natural and good, but I would be asking for understanding, not arguing. I might plead, but I do not challenge or question God's decisions or ways. I do not "join partners" with Him as if we were equals.
