I like that it's smaller. There's a certain camaraderie in knowing that just about everyone here is here for the same purpose. There isn't that useless "cool factor" that propels MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter. It's charming that this site is still small enough that the creators will respond to your posts. I find it very charming that UBER celebrity Rainn Wilson can post something, and after months, there are 6 comments, or 2 comments, or 0 comments. That lets me know that this site isn't a fad. It's substantial. It defeats the argument that social networks destroy "real" interaction. This TRULY is a community. And a worthwhile one to be a part of. :)

To be honest, I fear it's rise in popularity. I don't want to see it destroyed.

It is the only place where you see people response in a most open and deep way.

I hang out on facebook for a bit, not so much lately. Cuz I find people tend to be either pretentiously smart or pretentiously stupid on facebook(except for the people on SP facebook, but they are outnumbered by other stupid friends on my facebook.)

i like the people. i like expanding my brain and changing my ideas about life. SP is some good people and i like that there is a place where i can have a mirror put in my face every now and then to show me where i am or could be wrong.

"Philosophy, psychology, and theology are topics that I studied in school and they continue tease and delight my brain. Nothing is more intellectually fun (imo) than to chew on another's perspective for a while. It's also nice to openly discuss this stuff and not live in fear of offending someone's spiritual sensitivities, which at least for me, is difficult most of the time. On the flip side of the Soulcake, my heart ultimately rests in non-dual land, or 'God,' as some folks like to say. There is a constant pull, a yearning if you will, to seek that Absolute unity beyond and within the vast infinity of variance. So if I see just a glimmer of that by waking up ungodly early for yoga practice, it's worth it. If it's to be found in yet another pit of failure and despair, throw me in. If it's there on the street, with the homeless and rejected, that's where I need to look. And, if it's here, in an internet forum at 1am, that's where you'll find me. Lots of luck to all of you, whichever road you find yourself on and whatever destination you hope to reach. May our journeys one day merge, never again to pull apart."
. . .
Yeah. So after all the build-up, it seems like sort of a let-down. But still...it's true. Also the people rock pretty hard, too. Sunday or any day.

I just moved to a new city, not knowing anyone, had some "girl" issues a couple days ago, searched for a question to help me deal with what was going on with that. I am also a philosophy major and I analyze everything to the point it makes me depressed sometimes. Once I was here I got sucked into the many beliefs and ideas that circulate, its nice to see various fresh advice and opinions.

It's liberating. I get to 'talk' to, read and ponder other peoples questions & comments... I am able to give an opinion on something other than fashion, celebrities or gossip... And if I don't want to have a conversation about it, I can skip the post all together. It's mind numbing to hear the drones talk about who wore what to the Grammy's for 3 hours or who is breaking up now. And this site is different... it's not just a blog about 1 persons thoughts, it's everyone's thoughts and opinions, personal or not. And like @silvinajm said, you are able to have honest discussions...

I love that we can discuss anything without censorship and the combination of perceived friendship and support combines well with the relative anonymity. It creates a safety net that probably doesn't exist in many other areas of our lives.
