Depends on what you mean when you say Leader... I'm not a big fan of following anything blindly and when it comes to cliques and such I've always stayed away from people with leadership ambitions. However if you're talking about Governments and such then I try to be pretty strict about following the law and such (which isn't very difficult really). I stay completely away from party politics as they create more disunity than they create unity.

But if we talk about religion then that's a bit more complicated. As I said before I don't think anyone should ever follow blindly. For me faith is "first conscious knowledge, and second the practice of good deeds." If you don't understand why you are following something then it pretty much seems like the whole exercise is redundant. So for me I Investigated religion and then when I was sure that I felt it was the truth I accepted it wholeheartedly. This does not mean I stopped trying to understand and investigate my religion but the premises were quite different. If I find something I don't understand I pray for understanding and discuss with people and always find enlightenment about whatever issue I am researching. So in this sense my religion is my ultimate Leader since I have only found happiness by exploring it's precepts.

My mother insists that I was born marching to the beat of my own drum. I decide things for myself. I choose which laws I will obey and which ones I will not--with full consideration of the consequences.

The reality is we need leaders, and we need rules and regulations. We have leaders and rules because people have demonstrated a pronounced tendency towards uncivilized behavior without them. But we also need those who ask difficult questions and refuse to obey unjust laws.

A good leader/mentor needs to earn the trust before letting them make all my decisions. That said, my life has been wonderfully blessed by my decision to listen to mentors I've had. I have no problem making my own decisions but, to be honest, I've gotten more headaches by decisions Ive made foolishly than I had I listened to the advice of wise sages.

Never discount sound leadership.

We should all be making our own decisions, as long as no one is overridden in the process.

I will take the taking of my own decisions as far as going against some legal injunction from any leader who I can see to be abusing the role - as in the example set by Nelson Mandela and Gandhi - civil disobedience.

if you do vote for someone to lead you - be sure that you hold them to account...
and if you don't vote - shut up and hold yourself to account.

I'm good at making big decisions, but when it comes to the little stuff I leave it to either someone else or chance. Sometimes I use eeny meeny miny moe if no one's around...
