What content would you want for your obituary?

I'll admit I will glance at the obituaries wondering if I might know someone... But the majority of the time I can't help but think these people had no say in what is many's last public foray. When my Great-Uncle died last year he wrote the body and picked his picture...it was fantastic! I'm wondering what people would want in their obituary...something funny, b.s., or even a picture from much earlier in life (which if I have any say I will have a much younger picture of me before everything goes south).

She lived a full life with love and joy !!

I love reading the obituaries. It is one of the most interesting sections of the newspaper. I am not sure what I would want mine to say at this moment.

Truthfully, It would be my greatest joy if my obituary simply stated:

"He was a great husband, and a great father"

I won’t shuffle off this coil, And I will not cross the bar
I don’t plan to kick the bucket, And I sure won’t buy the farm.
I shan’t go to meet my maker, Nor will I give up the ghost,
Nor cash in, check out or peg it, But the one that riles me most

Is the phrase, “She has expired”, The worst I’ve ever seen.
Is anybody here who thinks that I’m a magazine?
I don’t need a one-way ticket, And I don’t want any wings –
Unless they’re honey-barbecued with beans and slaw and things.

So when I’ve been cremated , And scattered far and wide,
It really will suffice to say that I have simply died.
Don’t say I’ve gone or cashed my chips, Or that I’ve been erased –
Just say, “She’s dead” and then be sure I’m in the database.

The last line of mine will be: "Be sure she's in the database."

I'd like this poem:

Man of Clay

The fellow never marked his years
that toiled in the clay
and passed his time with idle thoughts
and never cursed his days
in his idle mind he puzzled
on the earth and on the sea
and of all the things he thunk about
he thunk about with glee
And by the moon he drank his cups
danced with ladies plain or fair
and most every man that happened by
he dealt with fair and square
It's not to say he had no faults
or that he never cried
But always 'neath the morning sun
he picked up his spade and tried
and in this way he passed his days
whether bitter, warm, or mild
And it came to pass he found a wife
and likewise had a child
And so it was he lived his life
right 'til the day he died
they made his grave within the clay
and his tombstone read, "He Tried".
