It means being one of the rarest of animals - one that destroys itself while at the same time believing in eternity.

And a whole bunch of other things that are more fun, too.

I think the Ted link is well worth the time, although the dude does look a bit a guy who helps the guy take care of animals at Hogwarts. Ted has a lot of things to check out. The tiny pre-K Chinese girl playing the piano is amazing.

I'm not sure that I know exactly what it all means but Hamlet in the eponymous play, Act II Scene 2 is still a favorite of mine. I also admit to still singing it, like they do in Hair.
What a piece of work is a man, how noble in reason, how
infinite in faculties, in form and moving how express and
admirable, in action how like an angel, in apprehension how like
a god! the beauty of the world, the paragon of animals—and yet,
to me, what is this quintessence of dust?

That's super interesting to ask. If I had to guess, I'd say being a human gives you the ability to share love and empathize and emote. It's about being complex and about being unique.

And, maybe more than anything, it's the ability to change the course of history. No other earthly thing has ever really been able to say that (literally and figuratively), mostly because humans can be independent and have independent thought, like I'm showing right now.
And, as adecker14 said, to laugh at farts. That's, you know, unique too :)
