What did we ever invent. Changing things around in a different pattern, we presume is different and newin my opinion is not inventing so whether you perceive the sun rise does not mean it didn't exist...

There is no body, nothing material exists.

I believe in the next life we retain awareness of our true identity and the people to whom we have a spiritual connection. We are also aware of much more than we were in this life, since we are then free of the limitations of this plane.

Nein. We are gone. No more. Returned to the blissful, peaceful abyss of non-existence 'we' occupied before we became conscious beings. It'll be like the best sleep ever. Look forward to it.

Or do they detach? I happen to believe in soul sleep. I don't think they can be separated from the body as a separated conscience entity. I'm not 100% certain though, but then again, who is.
