I liked Sherlock Holmes the best, but I have to admit that Avatar was phenomenal on a visual perspective (the plot was cliche). Inglorious b******s was an awesome movie, though... and I like Paranormal Activity, too... hm. There were lots of good movies this year.

The most enjoyable movie for me, on pretty much every level, was Sherlock Holmes. Good story, great effects, and excellent acting. I haven't seen Nine yet, but I'm still enamored of Rob Marshall because of Chicago. Also haven't seen Precious, but it might be really good or it could be a remake of the Fantasia Barrino story.

@zamfir I heard Avatar was indeed mind-blowing in IMAX, but the story was also like Dances With Wolves.

I have to say District 9. I don't want to ruin it for people that haven't seen it, but it a terrific, pertinent story with an incredible character arc for the protagonist.

Technically I'd agree that Avatar was wonderful, but story-wise it borrowed so heavily from such movies as Pocahontas, Ferngully and Last of the Mohicans that it can be called nothing if not derivative. That said, seeing it in IMax 3D was mind-blowing.
Oh yeah, Sam Worthington has yet to prove to me that he can act.
