Goodness, don't mean to be rude but this will sound it: I'm glad some read the question. The purpose was to be able to imagine the scenario from one short sentence of content. Though I can understand the need to explain oneself, it really isn't necessary.

the children were allowed to leave the table after pudding time - he went straight upstairs and tried the hat on
- loved it even more...
came downstairs holding it behind his back and walking sideways towards the lounge and away, past the open plan entrance to the dining area and smiled at the few who looked his way - before announcing,
"I haven't taken any hat".

My earliest memory was an attempt at an April fools joke, "Daddy i'm 4"... "No April fools! I'm only 3!" In hindsight I wonder if he was going along with the joke to be nice or if he really didn't know I was only 3... Conicidentally today's my birthday and i'm sure if I call him he'll ask "how old are you now?"

"My dad is dead."
I started saying this habitually after my (very alive) father disowned me when I was 6; perhaps I was trying to save face.

I don't even know why I said that. They showed us their truck, that was it. My older sister was mad cause they didn't 'let' her class do that.

Four, in SUNDAY school of all places, I said it was my birthday so I could lead the class and do everything first...being an August baby I never got to celebrate my bday in school at all.
