Great question. I believe the story of Adam and Eve has deeper meaning than people realize. and I don't believe it should be taken literally. If you take everything in the bible literally then you're left with major flaws and then you lose faith altogether. If you see the meaning in the stories told and you place more value on the message and less on the material aspects that people traditionally value then your faith and understanding will be stronger. I believe in an evolutionary process and a higher power, and a more spiritually based and less literally based understanding of the bible. After all, Jesus said "spirit is everything, flesh profiteth nothing." Yet, Chrisitian traditions place so much importance on things of this world.. We just had Easter, celebrating the resurrection of Christ. So what if Jesus rose from the grave. In my view the world of spirit is nearer to God and more incredible than this world, and when we die we are getting closer to that reality. For Christ to have come back to this world in his body would be like us going back into the womb of our mother. And yet Paul said in the Bible that flesh and bones do not inherit the kingdom of heaven. We die a material body and rise a spiritual body. Yet, because we're so materially based we place importance on the literal, and neglect the biblical emphasis on the spiritual. The essence of Christ has to do with the spirit that the Gospel of John said existed from the beginning. The resurrection of Christ, therefore, is spiritual, and explains how the people came to understand and recognize the truth of Christ. Besides, a material rising doesn't indicate divinity, considering the gospel of matthew speaks of many others rising from their tombs during the crucifixion of Christ. So, I do not believe Adam and Eve had belly buttons because I don't take the story literally. Having said all that, there is still much literall and historical relevence in the bible, but stories such as these have a more symbolic and spiritual meaning.

Of course. How else would they have been fed while in the wombs of their mostly-human-slightly-monkey mothers?

Alright, this question is driving me nuts. I have changed my mind. They don't have belly buttons. They didn't come from the womb.

Outstanding question. I believe that we are made in His image and therefore Adam and Eve did have belly buttons even though they weren't created in the womb.

Right, Friday. Also, no. it just doesn't make sense for them to have them. they weren't made in a womb. no need.
