Lying is simply another inherent flaw of being human, no matter what we do it is impossible to never slip into the to vast lake of deception. This being the case, we cannot brood hate towards someone if they lie, as long as they don't too often, and as long as it's effects aren't severe. If anything we should accept that lying is part of who we are, and fight it anyway. We should not take this as an excuse to lie more and more, but as reason to minimize as much untruth as we can. If there's one thing I've learned, every seams to get better when your honest, sometimes you build up this wall of lies, dam that holds back the truth. Honesty puts holes in the wall, and the truth starts to leak out. It can be scary, as too much of this golden liquid at once seams like it might overwhelm your life. But trust me, if you can break the wall, poke enough holes in it, and let the flood proceed, eventually it will settle out and you will feel renewed, and satisfied. It will pay off to keep the wall as little as you can. It will pay off because no matter how good a lier you are, even if you can keep all that truth stored up and hidden behind the wall, the fact that the wall is there tips people off. Sometimes it's even subconscience, and they don't really know it, but they can feel the resistance, they can feel the potential, they can feel an imbalance somewhere, somehow. Be as honest as you, remind yourself if you have to, more things will start going right, and it just feels good.

If there was no lies, there would be no santa clause. Are we doing something wrong when we tell our three year old children that santa brought the gifts? Also, the term they use in the bible is "bearing false witness". Is that the EXACT same thing as "lying"?

Yes. Question is... how much do you let it effect you? Does it really matter, either way? Because you'll always see reality from your point of view, which is probably full of untruths, anyway.

All lies stem from truths. I think lying is a part of life, but some people loose themselves in it. Just like they do other things.

probably is. Thing is, it's so damned hard to keep up with that too many people get over their heads right away.

It is a part of our nature. But that doesn't mean it has to be given into and become a part of our life. We have the choice.

Truthing has its place. I have advised people to tell the truth because it is more empowering. For example: Rather than threaten to leave when you know you really won't, say something like *I wish I was strong enough to leave you now. I would like to. Some day perhaps I will.* The fact that you are not bluffing makes it a more powerful statement.

when i was little, i used to lie like CRAZY. and the funniest part was that i thought i could get away with it. when i look back on that...it makes me laugh. now, however i don't do it so much. i try to employ the, "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all." rule. because a lot of times, when i might lie, it's because i want to be nice. (No, Caroline, that unitard body suit DOESN'T make you look ridiculous!) I suggest you watch, "The Invention of Lying" with Ricky Gervais. It's incredibly poignant and Jennifer Garner is hilarious.

I don't lie to others. I just lie to myself (like if I'm depressed I tell myself I'm happy) but those kind of lies will likely turn out to be true b/c thoughts are really powerful. so... ya (:

Seeing that we have a subconscious which censors many of our thoughts and drives- we even lie to ourselves. How can we then be completely honest to anybody else? It starts with US. LOL
