I believe in individual truths. I have a hard time seeing "universal" truths...as far as issues of humanity.

Truth with a capital T is Reality, the Unimaginable All, also called God. Our human perception, truth with a small t, is relative and conditional and complementary and departmentalized. With some of our tools, faculties, and processes we discern scientific truth. These tools make objective measures and cannot be applied to spiritual issues. Spiritual issues are experienced and the truths of them are defined subjectively. We discover our own personal truths with different tools which are not primarily used for scientific measures. Religion falls into the category of personal truth. Our personal truths are not universal- the truth for one individual cannot be applied to others. Although many individuals may recognize the same truth, each comes to it on his/her own. Personal truth cannot be transferred to others. The differences in our personal truth is determined by the diversity among ourselves and our perception. It does not indicate any variation in Reality. The similarity of our personal truths (example: the golden rule) does not prove them in an objective way. It does, however, lend credibility in society. Individuals get comfort and reassurance and validation when their beliefs are shared by many. The tools we use to discover spiritual/personal truth are many. For an individual they may include intellect, emotion, intuition, tradition, meditation, movement, dreams, beauty (of nature and manmade), pain, deprivation (self-imposed or otherwise) and anything else. Many people do not come to a personal truth. Some people just follow what others do without a personal search. Some people search and question, but never come to any conclusion. Some people pretty much ignore the spirit and live a life of materiality. So, I do not think we humans can know absolute truth. We are fallible so our perception is always subject to error. Some of what we know may actually BE an absolute truth, but we would have no objective way of knowing it.

Let's try an experiment. I am in my office. If I stand up and jump in the air I will, most likely, come down. Let's start there. Or, alternately we can discuss the speed of sound, or the boiling point of Cesium, or if rain makes things wet, etc.

What sort of metaphysics class, if you don't mind sharing? http://www.notimeforkarma.com/" target="_blank">http://www.notimeforkarma.com/ We can't know the truth while we are in physical form & h/t to Bonster, because truth is subjective & easily disguised. We work on Self & we do & say useful things that will help the Greater Good. We learn all we can & teach all we know in a way that the person receiving the information can best assimilate it. We know that everyone is both Student & Teacher. We remember that WeR1 & become peace & love.
