I don't know if I have a "soul" or not, but, if any of that stuff is true, I'm coming back as a crazy ghost

irreverent tangent alert... Tony Ferrino - (a creation of British Comedian, Steve Coogan) used to sing a wonderful song that ended with a searing power ballad style chorus and the repeated line "..of our souls... our souls our souls" belted out this just came to mind when we discuss this question of as*holes... I mean our souls.

I don't know, but it doesn't really affect me. I like the idea of consciousness more than soul.

The soul is a lovely make-believe aspect of ourselves, invented to make the great abyss of non-existence seem less abysmal.

A soul holds within it everything that a person is: mentality, personality, memory, etc. Therefore I believe that people are just physical manifestations of souls.

I agree with the.. die and we die' .. theory... to me, our "soul" is just an idea.. its a label for total sum of combined thoughts that makes us unique...

Oh, memory. I think we take our memories with us when we die, but we will see them from a different perspective. We will have greater awareness and understanding. Physical afflictions, such as brain disease, do not affect the soul. Upon death all physical limitation fall away.

interesting question. I guess it depends on what you define soul as. For me, I see the soul as the deepest self, the real self, the only eternal part of human nature. In other words, the soul's nature is God's nature, it outlasts the physical body (unlike thoughts and memories). Also, in my opinion, it can only be reached in a transcendental state, not in the waking state like the mind can. The soul has nothing to do with memory or thought. It is our deepest sense of right- our conscience. And a person need not be intelligent or "all there" to have a soul.

I totally get what you are asking and I had a similar question awhile ago. "Are We our Memories"?? I wonder the same thing too. I work with people who have lost their memories...which I feel is our essence, (I don't know why I just do)--and then do they gain them back when they die? I would hope my soul would have memories...I'm not quite sure we HAVE sould, but I want mine to have my memories.
