Dream Big!! You would be disappointed to realize 20 years down the road that you missed out on an opportunity because you were scared of failure.

I learned once that if we shoot for the moon, we might still end up on earth, but if we shoot for the sun, we might end up on the moon. Dream big, and you're likely to accomplish something.

I agree, never be afraid to fail. Who cares, at least you tried, I think that is what life is all about, its a constant current, you flow through everything..... You're pulled to one thing, it doesn't work out, but it was only the wave that carried you up high enough to reach the next : )

I'm not going to tell you about failure. It's not in your control, so don't let the possibility of that happening keep you from pursuing your dreams. In the meantime, especially being 17, you need to do the things that will make your product (which is yourself) more marketable. Currently that seems to includes finishing high school and getting a BFA or something from a school that is likely to let you get on stage (which is usually a smaller one). Then go to New York (unless you're already in school there). And it's expensive to look for acting jobs. You have to work in head-shots, printed resumés, and a "real" job that will allow you to make auditions. You'll be expected to a lot of acting for free, to build up your resumé and to hope that an agent or producer will notice you. Starting now, you should be taking singing, dance, and acting lessons. And you'll keep doing that for quite a while. But here's the deal, you'll find a way to do it and you won't mind. And after a few years, if luck is with you, you might become an overnight sensation like Dustin Hoffman was (after about 10 years). But getting three lines in an obscure off-off-off Broadway show will thrill you enough to keep you going. I know this is a long post, and I apolgize got that. Being a (small time) director, I can tell you that casting is not all about talent. You can be very talented and lose a role to someone whose taller, weighs more, or has a different hair color. Directors have to cast for the ensemble. It's work, for sure. And the odds are that you won't make a killing, and it might be difficult to make a living. Think of "Joey" on Friends. It's probably very much like the way it goes. Break a leg!

@Hayls you and I have similar dreams. I'm 20 and I'm currently going to school to pursue all of them. Do what you damn well please .. if you have big dreams go for them. My acting teacher always tells us that a glorious failure is the most productive thing that can happen to you. It teaches you things and it gives you initiative to continue on and fix what you didn't get right the first time. My advice to you is to continue to dream as big as you possibly can .. you never know what'll happen =) .. good luck !!!!

If you dont dream big wats the use of dreamin. Nobody dr4eams of working in a cubical. I want to be a comedian and am pusuring it full heartedly. If we dream small and fail you will feel worse than dreaming big and failing. Plus if you dream big there is usuallt a long journey to the goal and it will b a hell of a ride

Dream big don't don't always expect to win, because even dreaming small, you can still fail. If you don't go for what you want, you're always going to regret it. I want to experience everything, the failure and heartache, too.

Dream big but learn to accept failure. Don't let them define your life. I want to be in a successful rock band. I'm going to try to be in a successful rock band until I feel like I can't anymore. I've come close a couple of times, and if it never happens, bummer, but I'll be okay. So yeah, that's a big dream. But that's not what my life is centered around. If I fail I don't feel like my whole life is worthless. Do you know what I mean? It's always good to dream big. It's just a matter of making sure you can handle the possibility of failing.
