Should I speak my heart before it's too late?

So there's this girl. Not just any girl. THE girl. We dated in primary school and then she left. Eight years laters and she came back into my life and I fell head over heels for her. Like badly. But it didnt work out. Its been a year and a half and she's still on my mind and I find myself nervous in her presence, anxious to say things I should not as she has a boyfriend. But school is over now and she is going to Europe for 12 months in two weeks time. I am moving 900 kilometres away to go to film school for 3 years and I have a feeling that if I dont tell her now it will be too late. I need her to know that I always think about her and that I will wait for her, but is that a stupid thing to do? I don't know if I will ever see her again yet I cannot imagine my future without her in it. What do I do, what do I say?

At least now Tom you've realised that love exists. It does, and you know now nonetheless. I think you should wait out until you know the person you love loves you back, because you can't force love upon someone else, especially when they don't seem to be reciporicating your feelings at all. It sucks, I know (believe me), but love will come. (Sounds so corny!!!!!!!! UGH!)

Thankyou everyone for your advice. As much as I feel for this girl I have decided to let her go. I dont want to burden her with it an I dont want to make a promise to her I cant keep. What if a great girl comes along who loves me and I am bound to someone else? Instead I will take delight in the fact that I have at least found love, even if it may be lost, but I now know that love is real, its not a fairytale creation or a Hollywood theme, its real and with that I can go into the world and start my life, knowing that I can find this amazing and real thing called love. Once again, thankyou so much for your advice, it made me realise its not just about me. And as lame as it sounds, I feel relieved, I can let go of her and start again. Here I come film school! <3

If it didn't work out a year and a half ago, it is apparent that she is not interested in having a relationship with you. She HAS a boyfriend. She is going to Europe for a year. She has plans, and they don't seem to include you. You are going to school for the next three years, and you need to focus on that. Stop imagining your future; concentrate on the present. Open yourself up to the idea that you will be meeting new girls and finding one that just might knock your socks off.

In my opinion it could go both ways. You could tell her so you won't regret not telling her. There could be a possibility something could come of it and maybe not. But you have to consider her boyfriend too. If another guy confessed his love to YOUR girlfriend how would you feel?

I think you should tell her for the sake of not regretting it for the rest of your life. You're about to start a new chapter at film school. It would be a true shame if you met a girl there who loved you and you weren't open to a relationship because you were holding out for this pipe dream. You could hold out for this girl for years and years, and nothing could ever come of it. That's one possibility, anyway. It'd be so much better to know how she feels now, rather than finding out 15 years from now, after you have turned away everyone else in your life who has tried to love you. Because her answer could very well be that she doesn't feel the same, that she doesn't want to be with you. You should prepare yourself for that. Don't expect it, but prepare for it, just the same. Life is messy.

No, you've already spoken your heart to her, she knew how much you cared about her and loved her but it couldn't work out. Your future is your future, not hers. You shouldn't force her into something like that again.

it depends on you. Personally, if i was in your situation i'd tell them how I truly feel and leave nothing out. Spil your heart out get emotional. Be courageous and just jump.

If she was truly THE girl, it would have worked out....or fate will intervene and it will work out in its own time, naturally without being forced. There's nothing wrong with expressing your appreciation for her friendship and what that friendship means to you. You've been friends for a long time, so why should that end? Keep in touch via Facebook and email, but don't lay all your cards on the table now, especially when she has a boyfriend. You'd be putting her between the proverbial rock and the hard place. I certainly wouldn't say anything about "waiting" for her--that makes you sound desperate and sad--why would you wait for someone when that relationship has a history of not working out? Set her free, live your life to the fullest extent possible, become your own person. Let her do the same. Put your hopes and dreams out in the universe. Who knows--maybe the universe will bring her back to you when you both are ready.

If it can be said without the "please feel the same way" inherent in those kinds of admissions, than go for it. If I was the girl, I would want to know that someone loves me like that. If it can be done without the pressure attached. I do agree that admission or not, focusing all romantic energy on waiting for her, will keep other experiences from happening. Much good luck -

I honestly think that without any encouragement from her, you would be doing yourself a disfavor. Because please dont forget- it would be all about you and not in the least about her. This is then about your longing and your needs and your dreams- and not hers. I dont even really know how much that really has to do with love? If her head is elsewhere, then I would like to say to you that you might have to learn to let go. I am sure film school will be exciting!
