I think we can trace the answer from a line of a very familiar show. People who say they "don't see color" are just "...fighting ignorance with more ignorance." In short, I agree that people who say they "don't see color" are a bit narrow-minded in their view. It is possible that they are not racist, but they shouldn't say they "don't see color".

I can't stand hearing that people "don't see color." That's an incredibly racist thing to say. How would they act if they could see color? Not seeing it doesn't mean they are okay with race. It means they're ignoring it because it makes them uncomfortable. Why can't they just accept that people vary widely in appearance and culture and respect them AND their diversity not DESPITE their diversity?

I think by "not paying attention to color," you pretty much ignoring the diversity we're surrounded with. While I agree that with some advertisements, it seems a little "forced" with the amount of diversity shown and discussed, but I also think that to a certain extent, we need to see it. I teach Kindergarten, and I was thinking about the "look" of my classroom. If someone were to ask me to grab five of my (22) kids in here, to show the "diversity" in the classroom, I'd be offended. I can't "use" a handful of my kids like that to display the diversity in the room - I'd need all 22 of them! I'm rambling, sorry. I just think that you're glossing over how important diversity is when you don't see color. All I can think of is Michael Scott on Diversity Day, I can't concentrate on the question... :)

Your question reminds me of the phrase "melting pot". That annoys me greatly. It has a genocidal smell to it.

Nope, you're not. I definitely see a yellow guy and a black guy there. I always give people a chance and I try my best not to judge off of prejudice, but after I know someone for awhile, I can usually safely treat him like the color he is.

That does annoy me my friend. But what also annoys me, is when I see an advertisement with ONE person of every race. If they are advertising multi-cultural festivals, yay for them. But when they are advertising a toilet cleaner, WHAT THE HECK? I mean, is it really necessary?

to clarify I don't think people mean this literally. It just annoys me when they say stuff like this.
