From what I understand, the Mayan's didn't predict sh*t. What they did was chart out the alignments of the stars based on their movements. And what they did was chart their movements centuries into the future, and the furthest into the future they may these astrological calanders for was our 2012. So basically, 2012 is the arbitrary year the mayans stopped on when charting stars. People take this to believe that they thought this would be the end, or something, but it really doesn't mean anything other than the mayans had to stop calculating where stars would be at some point.

I don't know if it's going to end or not, but here's some questions I've been thinking about regarding this... Edgar Casey predicted the world would end on the very same day - he wasn't an educated man and probably never even knew where the Mayans were from What if the person writing all this stuff down just ran out of room and had to get another rock? There could be another rock sitting around with a whole new chapter. Did anyone bother to flip over this Mayan calendar rock? Maybe there's more on the back. If the Mayans were so smart, why didn't they predict thier own demise? BTW, where did they go anyways? No one really knows what happened. They may have dispersed throughout South and Central America, fell victim to disease or have been beamed up by aliens (that last one is an actual theory I heard on PBS last night).

I think the year 2012 could possibly be the start of a new spiritual awakening.. It feels like we're moving in that direction today.. I can feel it in myself and many, many other people are feeling the same thing.. I don't believe the world will end.. I have to wonder why there are so many doomsayers in this world, especially Christian doomsayers.. What is that all about? I've heard a theory that the gravitational pull will start to change slowly on that day.. I'm just hoping that means everything that's traveling south on my body will suddenly head north. lol....

There are biblical showings, buddhist showings, and other religious showings (as well as different types of people) that either show the world will come to an end or all bad things will be destroyed. I choose to believe the bad things and people will be destroyed according to things I've read and seen, but I believe there is enough love to keep the planet. I believe the date is...December 12,2012.

Here we go again. It seems everybody's dwelling on *the* Mayan calendar (the Long Count calendar) of about 5,200 years. I guess since it's Mayan it sounds mysterious. There are around 20 Mayan calendars, and none of them predict gloom and doom. Other cultures, including the Hindu, Egyptian, and even the Hopi Native American, use timekeeping systems that point to the same approximate date as being significant to mankind, and these systems are all based on the same astronomical observations (the stars). That Mayan calendar doesn't "end" on December 21, 2012 any more than ours does on December 31st. It starts it's "year" over. The other misconception here is our position in space relative to everything else. The Earth, not the entire solar system, will be aligned with the center of the Milky Way galaxy, not the Universe. Any extremely small change in our location in the galaxy is irrelevant in terms of gravitational pull, because the rest of the galaxy is moving too. It was thought in the '60s that we were aligned with the center, but more accurate measurements since then show we are closer now. There is nothing even remotely significant that could cause all of these natural disasters people are trying to scare the hell out of everybody with. People who are uninformed about it buy into this garbage out of ignorance and fear. Reminds me of the fearmongering used by religion. Don't even get me started on that. It seems to me that every time somebody starts making predictions, they're predicting negative, terrible things. I think it's because they get more attention that way. Try telling somebody how great things are going to be and see how far you get. Kind of reminds me of the news. How positive is any of that? Come to think of it, the news is *responsible* for this hysteria. And don't look in the Bible. Those people have been predicting gloom and doom for many centuries, and they don't seem to be having any luck, either. It's all about getting attention, as far as I can see.

I think it's what they call and apocalypto, not an apocalypse. I hope to see a revolutionary change, something globally dramatic, hopefully for the betterment of the Earth, it's plants and animals, and us. I do not expect Ragnarok.

I can't tell the future, so I'm not going to give a yes or no answer. What I will say is that I've learned that the Mayan calendar is based on cycles. Dec 21, 2012 is what they predicted to be the end of the "great cycle" (or something like that). Who's to say what's going to happen after that, for all we know it could be a "greater cycle."

This whole 2012 bit is based on a Mayan calendar. Has anyone seen that calendar? It's a simple case of the creators of the calendar just not wanting to go any further. It looked like a good place to stop. Although speaking spatially our solar system will be in the exact center of the known Universe some time during 2012. This WILL cause gravitational pulls that we have not yet experienced in our existence. It happens every so many billion years. I predict Natural disasters, but on what scale? I don't know.

"That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes, an aeroplane - Lenny Bruce is not afraid. Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn - world serves its own needs, regardless of your own needs. Feed it up a knock, speed, grunt no, strength no. Ladder structure clatter with fear of height, down height. Wire in a fire, represent the seven games in a government for hire and a combat site. Left her, wasn't coming in a hurry with the furies breathing down your neck. Team by team reporters baffled, trump, tethered crop. Look at that low plane! Fine then. Uh oh, overflow, population, common group, but it'll do. Save yourself, serve yourself. World serves its own needs, listen to your heart bleed. Tell me with the rapture and the reverent in the right - right. You vitriolic, patriotic, slam, fight, bright light, feeling pretty psyched. It's the end of the world as we know it. It's the end of the world as we know it. It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine. (IT'S TIME I HAD SOME TIME ALONE)" I love you, REM. Yours always, Daysleeper

No. None will know the day and hour. Many will predict, but all will be WRONG. Damn it, people! Take a look in the Bible every now and then! Only ONE of the MANY Mayan calenders ends in 2012 anyway!

No... but for many, it could be the end of time; which is a good thing. 2012 is just a logical date at which the Mayans stopped calculating time because it represents the end of an astronomical cycle. That doesn't mean another one won't start up right behind it.

People tend to stop watching movies that are titled for a future date, e.g. 1984, 2001, and most likely 2012. Bad for residuals.
