The Beatles aren't even my favourite band but I still consider them the greatest band of all time. They're like.... the kings of pop-rock. They're Michael Jackson AND Elvis (which I'm not sure is a compliment since they're both dead from drug-related porblems). Anyways- they were the Musical revolution. They influence every band- no matter how old they are. The Beatles wrote songs that everyone loved and the thing is- they stuck. I'm sorry iLookFamiliar. I can't even tell you two songs by U2. EVERYONE knows the Beatles. Ask a small child in an undeveloped country who The Beatles are and he'll go, "WE ALL LIVE IN A YELLOW SUBMARINE!!!" No joke.

I believe they were the greatest band on the frontier of rock-n- roll's infancy - that is the British invasion's infancy. On the American side, we have Buddy Holly and the Crickets, Bill Haley and the Comets, Roy Orbison, etc.

Well...normally, once a title's been set, it's set forever. I doubt we're going to be calling one other than Elvis Presley "The King of Rock and Roll", even though it's debatable if he deserves it or refer to any band other than The Clash as "the most important". It could be that their influence has spread farther than any other band's, though that is subjective and hard to measure. Almost every band that I've seen are directly or indirectly influenced by the Beatles. It could be the great mythos that surrounds them (and which continues to grow as long as members survive). I do agree with you, though: I don't quite understand how Beatle-mania continues to live. Well, I do, they have good music and great albums, but my personal preference is Bowie (who I think is be-all, end-all music-wise) and later, more guitar- and key-heavy bands.

So, if not the Beatles, what Bands are better (this is so subjective and based solely on musical taste and preference, it's almost impossible to questions someone else's opinion)?

Music evolves just like humans evolve (yes, I believe the Theory of Evolution is more than just theory). There is a logical evolution in music. You know the evolution. So, by default, music today has evolved from music from generations ago--that's a given. But to cite one band in particular, in this case, the Beatles is like saying all women are passive and men are aggressive. Even though some of today's bands may give credit to the Beatles, there are hundreds of other musicians that they should also credit who changed how we listen to music.

No they are not the greatest band of all time, they were the jonas brothers of the sixties, and then they made a rockband dedicated to them, but no one wants to play simple, old riffs like that. it's so boring.

Its very simple, you helped answer your question in your description. The beatles are often compared to the rolling stones, or in this case, U2 works i guess. The Beatles created more amazing songs in the 10 years they were together than The rolling stones made in 40 years, for U2- 30 years. Every single one of their songs could have been a hit. I dont know who you believe is a more gifted singer/songwriter or musician, but if you asked those people who inspired them to become muscians in the first place, I can tell you who would be right at the top of the list
