there is a strongly held theory - based on experiments using stimulating electric currents of parts of the brain - that we retain some sort of memory for every second we have been awake... but the research on how memory works in order to make it available for recall is also fascinating short term memory is said to have about seven "Bytes" in it - as the information comes in the 7 bytes get shunted along - unless you process each one and thus store it in the LONG term memory -it will be lost, pushed out by the latest incoming... This is why, when you are introduced to someone in a crowded situation (part , meeting etc.) you need to make a conscious note, or use a trick to remember their name - otherwise you go straight into conversation and have to ask them again a little later along the line... (this was what I was taught and it has been born out by my experience)

memories dont go away they stay in the brain we just decide to not remember them that the brain skips does memories and then at some point when an image reminds us it triggers that memory.

LOVE the picture! I don't know too much about memory repression, I deal more with cognitive issues and memory LOSS. I think if a memory is truly "repressed" and not "lost" (organically) then it's lurking somewhere in your storage. Something triggers it. I also think there's a whole lot of "repressed memory" hoo ha going on.

Do I need brain scan because sometimes I feed my dog twice or is it because I always ask her if I feed her? If you have healthy cognition with serious unresolved issues anyone may block memories. I am amazed how many friends can remember every teacher and classmate from grade school and high school. I seem to remember more of the significant experiences in my life. Music can be fascinating as far bringing a memory back that I may of forgotten. Yoga is wonderful for stillness.

Hey! Nice to see ya... well I always like your questions and your photos. Um... where do they go? Good question! In the unconscious, where the heck is that? What is it? I think they can come back at good times and bad times, timing wise. Something stirs it up, a sight, a smell. Sometimes I can deal with them, sometimes I push them away. I try to deal with them.
