Wouldn't you rather spend time trying to achieve your dreams or building a relationship with God rather than moping around because you don't believe in either? Get the facts, make whatever you're doubting really not true before you give up on any idea.

So my question is what makes you believe in things which have no proof to exist or completely rely on faith?WE ARE ALL BORN WITH THE BREATH OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.THIS IS WHAT PEOPLE TODAY CALL OUR CONSCIENCE.KNOWING THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RIGHT & WRONG.TO EXERT (To put to use or effect; put forth: exerted all my strength to move the box.) YOUR SPIRITUALITY I WILL SUGGEST A BOOK FOR YOU TO START WITH "THE STORY OF BAHA U LLAH"By Druzelle Cederquist. What harm does it to you to pick up this book and read it to the very end & ask yourself this question again. There has been proof you just were not born at the time to see it with your own eyes!Look you are breathing right?yet you cannot see the oxygen you breath but you know it exist.your proof the wind, well your body has a conscience & you know it to can give you a physical feeling in the pit of your stomach at times to let you know when it is right & when it s wrong.MY POINT BEING IT IS UP TO YOU TO SEEK TRUTH OTHER WISE YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO RID YOURSELF OF YOUR QUESTIONS.I am still young and I really do not want to think in this way... I wish I could be more optimistic but don't know how to be You should follow your dreams that is your soul(your soul is were talent & artistic abilities come from) compelling you to exert that Talent or dream.Your body is just a vessel. From the sweet-scented streams... From the sweet-scented streams of Thine eternity give me to drink, O my God, and of the fruits of the tree of Thy being enable me to taste, O my Hope! From the crystal springs of Thy love suffer me to quaff, O my Glory, and beneath the shadow of Thine everlasting providence let me abide, O my Light! Within the meadows of Thy nearness, before Thy presence, make me able to roam, O my Beloved, and at the right hand of the throne of Thy mercy, seat me, O my Desire! From the fragrant breezes of Thy joy let a breath pass over me, O my Goal, and into the heights of the paradise of Thy reality let me gain admission, O my Adored One! To the melodies of the dove of Thy oneness suffer me to hearken, O Resplendent One, and through the spirit of Thy power and Thy might quicken me, O my Provider! In the spirit of Thy love keep me steadfast, O my Succorer, and in the path of Thy good pleasure set firm my steps, O my Maker! Within the garden of Thine immortality, before Thy countenance, let me abide for ever, O Thou Who art merciful unto me, and upon the seat of Thy glory stablish me, O Thou Who art my Possessor! To the heaven of Thy loving-kindness lift me up, O my Quickener, and unto the Daystar of Thy guidance lead me, O Thou my Attractor! Before the revelations of Thine invisible spirit summon me to be present, O Thou Who art my Origin and my Highest Wish, and unto the essence of the fragrance of Thy beauty, which Thou wilt manifest, cause me to return, O Thou Who art my God! Potent art Thou to do what pleaseth Thee. Thou art, verily, the Most Exalted, the All-Glorious, the All-Highest. Bahá’u’lláh

I think the best way to get back to your dreams is to have your dreams killed right infront of yours eyes and then to realize that if they could be killed they must have been real in the first place..keep dreaming..

I do not yet have a fully (or even partially) realized response for the topic. It's a big question, and one that deserves a thoughtful response. I just wanted to take a moment and commend everyone who participates in these discussions. It's not often people are willing to debate, discuss, respectfully disagree (key word respectfully) and value other people's opinions when those opinions differ from their own. It's nice to see.

Perhaps surprisingly to some people, I've always been happy with the definition in Hebrews 11:13--faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. I think the more intelligent we become, we realize that although we cannot always make an exploded isometric grid drawing of something does not mean it doesn't exist. But I further believe that questioning that existence is essential to growth.

i think this is a struggle everyone goes thru... work your way thru it in your own way. my own advice is to be careful not to think you "should" feel or certain way or "want to" feel a certain way... that in my mind is a step on the path to self-delusion

Why not? Well, what if it's not true? Namely, the notion of God, and specifically, the christian version of God. Do you want to waste the one life you have on something that can't be proven objectively? Is it really "bad" to want to know objectively, as has been intimated? If we were created with 5 senses with which we experience and know the world we live in, is it bad to want to experience God via those senses? According to the bible God used to reveal himself physically quite a bit. Why not these days? This is ultimately how the debate usually ends up: "What if it's true?" vs "What if it's not?". Both have far reaching implications of course. I've lived on both sides and understand them well I think. People can have "faith" in anything there minds can conjure up, and it follows that such faith would affect their emotions and how they see others and interpret what happens in the world, and ultimately how they live their lives. Here's what I recommend if you're curious about the god of the bible. Find a bible and read it cover to cover. Yeah, it will take a while, but way too many people in my opinion embrace christianity with only a very vague understanding of what the bible actually says. You can find bible reading plans all over the internet that will help you slice it up into manageble chunks.

One can be both optimistic and realistic at the same time. It doesn't require one to "believe in things which have no proof to exist or completely rely on faith." Your childhood dream, by the way, does not fall into that category.
