One fools themselves that we had reliable sources pre-internet. The old saying of "the winners of the wars write the history books" so make an effort to gather information from divergent sources and remain politely skeptical with all information. The more you engage, the less you rely on others to get the truth.

One of my reliable tests is to ask myself: "What do they get out of it?" and also "Is there a conflict of interest here?"

The scientist says: Duplication, Corroboration If your source can produce these, you're probably on the right track. Tho watch out for slight of hand. Both of the above can be fabricated relatively easily. The realist says: Go with the gut. If it seems fishy, it probably is.

I guess I would question the fact we got "reliable" information ever? I would rather get many viewpoints on topics and decide for myself. I guess what I am trying to say is I do not really think there is such a thing....all information is given through someone else's filters.
