Why is God a dude to most people? Why does God have to be capitalized? Why can't God have a real name, like Bob or Perdita? I actually don't spend a lot of time thinking about God; I just sort of take for granted that he/she/it/whatso is kickin' around, being the stuff o' universe and whatnot. Probably waaaaaay too busy being omnipotent and junk to worry about whether I pass a test or make it to work on time or whatever the hell I'm sayin' "Oh, god" about. God takes care of its business, and I take care of mine. I just feel better believing its out there, lookin' out for the cosmos.

What makes a question important is ultimately subjective. As has been already said: what's important to me may be trivial to you and vice versa. Who sets the rules? Why so much talk and speculation and arguing about God? Well much of civilization as we know it has been directly impacted by belief in God. Think about how much has been done (or not done) in the name of or for the sake of God or the gods, or whatever. What would life look like today if the idea of God had never entered into our consciousness (that would be an interesting topic in and of itself!)? The whole subject of God opens so many cans of worms. Whose version of God are we discussing? The Hindu version, the Muslim version, the Native American version (which tribe?), the Christian version? If the Christian version, which Christian version? The calvinist, the arminian, the open theist, the universalist? If God is, why is there so much division on exactly who he/she is? I guess that's enough open cans for now.

To quote Soul Pancake "We want to make discussions about Spirituality, Creativity, and Philosophy cool again." That is why God is talked about so often on here - God is very clearly a common theme in spirituality, creativity and philosophy. It is not supposed to be a site about trivial things - that is what most other message boards are for. Soul Pancake is for... (again a quote) ........"There's a lot of crap out on these here Internets. We want to cut through the mindless drivel and get focused on why we're alive, what art and Faith are for, and what this whole mess is all about. You know, the important stuff."

The great thing about SoulPancake is that you can choose what to click on and what to comment on. I'll admit there are times that I get sick of God questions... but in times like that I just pass by them until i'm in the mood to talk about that sort of thing. As far as why John Lennon was murdered... I have no idea. And for zombie killing i'd use a shot gun... when I run out of amo I can resort to hand to hand combat... or a riffle with a bayonette. The other great thing about SoulPancake is that anyone can ask questions... so when the collective is swamped with God inquiries and you'd rather talk Lennon and Zombies then post a question about Lennon and Zombies.

One has to believe in something and one further hopes that something is compassionate and kind.

This site was developed to explore the soul or spirit and all things that that entails, i.e. LIFE - death, religion, atheism, spirituality, emotions, creativity, political issues, etc. Why John Lennon was murdered is old news, and what kind of weapon chosen to kill a zombie is not pertinent to anything.

I am a spirit on the first leg of an eternal journey. While I am here in this material world, my conscious self is engaged in the evolution of my own spirit.

Religion has had a lot to do with shaping my life. I'm an atheist, but the subject of Christianity is still an interest of mine. Clearly it shapes our world (Can you imagine an atheist President of the US? For shame!) so the whole kebosh is worth conversing about. Sure, it's stale sometimes, but even warmed-over conversation about creationism is worth a think, at least for me.
