Remade in our own image
As Humans we have an insatiable desire to combine, construct, re-make and redefine things unto our own service. We've taken self-perpetuating natural spaces and turned them into gleaming constructs to our own greatness, to better service ourselves. They're grand and all on the surface, but bring with them scads of their own issues both Human and Ecological, and without constant maintenance they would fall to ruin in a very short time. They cast a "footprint" -- more like a black hole -- around them of incredible size where resources are drawn from and waste is evacuated to. They are truly a monument to us -- a gleaming superficiality trying to distract from a myriad of mushrooming systemic problems . It's a trend. There's a recent question on SP about what Modern love is. There is the old definition that works, yet we want to re-make it into something more to our liking -- more to our service. There are many questions on SP about Heaven/the afterlife -- and again the trend is there with us wanting to re-make it to our own standards, get rid of the things we don't like, so it services us better. There are also many questions about God, and again the trend is there. We want Him to work in ways that cater to our logic, we want to re-make His character so badly that in some cases people would actually re-write God as themselves. It's like we want everything to bow and service us. In a certain measure I'm not saying that is bad. But have we gone overboard? Can we not just let some things be, and change ourselves to co-exist rather than insisting everything else change for our benefit?
