Death is always looked at as a way out! But my question would be are you that sure its a way out, have you been there before! why are you so sure death will bring you what you are looking for! You never died before! What makes you so sure! I believe those who take their own life, really want something different, they don't care what it is even death!

because in canada its cheaper to burry them and the us doctrs and drug companys can make millions on one dispair. the fact that somone wants to end it all means they have become very narrow minded. when your in a pit of dispair its very difficult to look around for other options, reasons to keep going. so if you think that somone has the right to kill themselves? how about when its your sister, mother, wife, child. then its different, yes? I have had way too many people i love torn from my life sometimes violently to allow some one i love or even a complete stranger give away some thing that was given by GOD. doesent matter who your parrents are lack of parrents or what somone may have done to you FIGHT THE DYING OF THE LIGHT. in closing if you think a loved one needs help but in be annoying and nosey get them out of there head see the beauty that this world has to offer...

Because in Canda, they want your body to make baccon out of. Just kidding. I guess it's illegal because it's a pain in the a*s for the government. The government nedds to put you in a hospital, provide therapy, provide drugs, and try to solve the problem. Also, if it's illegal, that means that the government doens't want you to do it where as in Canada I guess they're like, do what ever you want, more baccon for me.

Well... in this case... I don't believe she has the right to splatter herself all over the sidewalk... I mean, its at least equal to littering, right... but when it comes to "the right to kill yourself"... they can never really prevent you from doing it in your own home, if you really want to.... I think it being illegal is just another one of those rights that are taken away because of religious beliefs.... people believe it is wrong... why? .. Idk.... just like drugs... their trying to prevent a society that is full of dopers and psychotics... unfortunately its not working

As far as I know there is a law in America that says you can't kill yourself... not that you'd go to prison for actually committing the crime but, like someone said previously it's probably so that police and emergency responce teams can prevent the "crime" from being committed. I understand things like, people with terminal illness etc. deciding to not get or stop treatment. As far as people who are extremely depressed etc. that's treatable, wether a person knows it or not. On the other hand I think if someone is truely serious about not wanting to live any more they're going to go about it in a way that ensures they'll suceed without interuption. Someone publicly trying to off themself seems like more of a cry for help IMO.

Hmm what about suicide for the sake of one's honor? Maybe it's only justified is it doesn't appear to be a selfish act. Should you really force someone to live in a world where they feel that it is better to die then see another day? Is that your choice? Pull the plug or prolong the inevitable. And as for this I feel there are far more people in this world struggling to survive then those who enjoy death's sweet embrace. Maybe we should direct our attention to those people first.

Perhaps it gives police the power to act to save a life that, with an outlook, attitude, or brain-chemistry adjustment, would be glad their life didn't end. Wishing one's demise is generally not normal but rather, a sign of dysfunction. A dysfunction that can be dealt with either medically or which will pass away naturally in time as attitude and outlook are adjusted. There are times, when for the greater good, one life for the sake of many is the right choice. But we call that a martyr not a suicide. One is out-ward looking, for the acknowledged benefit of many; the other is inward-looking, for the perceived benefit of the one usually to the detriment of many.

Suicide leaves an ugly aftermath when successful. Family and friends are left with unanswerable questions and a lingering stain of guilt ('I knew this was coming, but I didn't take it seriously enough,' etc). Sometimes suicidal behaviours (that fail) can be the wake-up call that everyone (including the person who attempted it) needed to make a large turn-around for the better (whether that's getting treatment, feeling needed/appreciated again, or whatever). The point is, suicide is tragic for everyone involved. So of course we should do what we can to prevent it from happening in the first place. That being said, there's a small percentage of the population who will commit suicide, no matter what measures are taken to prevent it. And, at some point, we have to let those people go. I have had both close friends and a family member of a close friend commit suicide. It's ugly. It's gut-wrenchingly painful. And the more people we can talk down off that ledge the better. I don't know if making it a legal issue it the best route to take toward that end. All routes are challenging, however, when someone genuinely believes that living is an untenable option.

As far as I know, suicide isnt "legal" anywhere. How do you mean this? Do you mean assisted suicide? Because anyone can try to kill themselves without going to jail for it. And the main reason that suicide should not be an option is because as MLZellers says- it is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Many many people who have attempted suicide and survived felt totally different later and were happy that someone saved them. Depression can be healed and it would seem that it would be worth the work ( in psychoanalysis) if the alternative is dying.

the only reason I can think of is, how do you punish them if they break that law? I mean, really. One can't really say if it's better for another to be living or dead. a lot of times they continue to live because of the other people in their lives.

funny , in frisco there is a big debate about erecting an unsightly fence at the edge of the golden gate bridge ( which is modern art ) to keep the little darlings from the plunge ..and yet it is such a majestic way to go if you must kill yourself ,

Crispino- I know and understand that it's our moral obligation to try and stop them- i just haven't put my finger on "why". Maybe because we as humans have such respect and appreciation for life that keeping someone around just for the CHANCE that they may change their minds and live a fulfilling life is worth it? Ps- Soul Pancake is awesome.

My mother commited suicide 14 years ago, the anguish, pain, and suffering she endured due to depression is only equaled by the pain my family continues to endure, every single day since . Families must be allowed to do everything they can to help cure someone with mental anguish/illness, if that means making suicide illegal so be it. No one should suffer through what it is like to be the family members that will question what more we could have done to save her.
