So...I'm listening to Dark Tranquillity on my laptop and attempting to keep up with the double-kick. There's something to be said for a format that doesn't skip at all in such instances. I haven't paid for a physical album for a couple years now, and I don't pirate...anymore. I'm hooked on iTunes. Although, I miss reading the liner notes and looking at the artwork, the packaging and actual disc would just go to waste eventually. I just need to work on backing up my purchases. Having my library spread out over 2 computers, an iPod and about a hundred discs can be frustrating.

i prefer record bc i like the static sounds-it's soothing. reminds me of the past but hot damn if a record won't skip in the passenger seat of my car

I'm torn between saying neither or both. I would say neither & say the iPod instead because it's portable and never gets scratched but I'd say both because the album usually sounds of better quality.

Being brought up with crappy, scratchy records, I would go with CD's. I will give up some warmth to avoid the snap, crackle and pop.

I'm answering this before looking down there to see what others said. Personally, I think CDs are better quality for music--they are much more durable and fit a heck of a lot easier into storage. That said, Dang but I miss albums. Opening them up--hoping they put something inside with the record like lyrics or notes. Staring at the cover for hours. Lifting the needle up to find your fave song. falling asleep to the "thump..thump" sound at the end. Plus, I have a rockin' case to hold my '45's. ;)

Obviously vinyl sounds better, anyone who tells you otherwise is just flat wrong. They're richer and fuller, with a wider range of frequencies displayed. Now, they melt, get scratched, are big, clunky, and you can't take em anywhere... MP3s loaded on my huge iPod are great for any time I'm not chillin in my living room.

Records, obviously, but harder and harder to find, unfortunately. Anyway, CD's are fine too...

I think records sound more wholesome, CDs are very delicate things because they scratch much too easily, but the mp3 makes music much more accessible.
