Sexual orientation doesn't complicate things its the people involved that cause complications.

It doesn't complicate it but it reminds you to clear your behavior of usual actions. However, the key to treat people consistently. I have straight and gay friends who are reasoned and good-hearted and I have straight and gay friends who can be ignorant and at times, jerks. It is up to me to enlighten the ignorant, no matter one's orientation.

is it okay for Jill to treat Jane like all her other female friends?" Yes "Will things that are harmless between heterosexual friends be misinterpreted by Jane given her orientation?" Not normally, just because she's gay doesn't mean shes stupid and doesn't understand when someones straight and goofing around or being nice. The average person tends to understand the difference. "Does the responsibility of boundaries lie with Jill, or Jane?" Whoever has the bigger issue with one of them being gay/straight I suppose. I've had gay friends, conversations may be a bit different here or there, but I treat them no differently from my other guy friends, if I give out a hug or an a*s pinch here and there they don't assume I'm hitting on them. Like any of my friends if something offends, crosses a boundry they say something and it stops.
