for me it's a tie between show music and Southern Gospel. They're very similar. Both of them can make me cry.

I once saw Songs for the New World in concert (it is a musical by Jason Robert Brown) by heart was beating so fast through it all, I could barely catch my breath, it was just absolutely beautiful and powerful. If you don't know JRB you should give it a try (I promise it is not what you think of when you think musical). I recommend Last Five Years or Songs for a New World.

When I am in a large group, and we are all singing along with the performer, that act of singing together stirs my soul. The song could be We shall Overcome, or Down in the Valley, or Danny Boy.....the act of joining in song creates a powerful bonding feeling.
