What I know is well actually not much. I can only speak to this from my experience. If you stop the progression spiritually of anyone whether it be with 'Good Intent' or whatever, manipulation that is inherently EVIL. Ah the responsibility of Free _Will! I prefer to see everyone as a being with 'The Will To Good' outshining the darker aspects. As I have said we are here to learn. Do you know that each of us actually flows counter to God. Ask yourself why? If you flowed in exact time dimension and consciousness with God why be here? Here is you learning. Here is you making mistakes. Try if possible to work on your own progression and don't if you can fixate on something out there beyond you. Be careful not to cast a giant shadow on anothers learning challenge from God. You learned now they need to as well! The baby must burn itself if it is to learn the concept of pain. It must associate the burner with being burned. Imagine if you will you 'rescuing' it from this basic knowledge. Imagine the baby unlearned, and what it might consider doing. Playing with Fire. Not controlled fire but a real fire. Do you want that karmically as your legacy? As within, so without. As above so below. Blessings on all your journeys. May we all walk through the gate of Shamballah! End of days is a transmutation to Light. Rejoice in this! Blessings Be! Bill Sonic Teacher and Guide of The Modern Mystery School

I believe evil is chosen ignorance. There are things people will be truly ignorant of through no fault of their own, but there is plenty people choose not to acknowledge and thus causes great harm to society and the world.

I have this concept of Satan as my own ego. I mean, everything we hear about Satan is true about the ego, so why not? And after reading all the previous comments here, all I see is either the opposite of what the ego is about (e.g., do unto others as you would have them do unto you) or a justification of the ego's actions (e.g., do unto others as they have done unto you). One attitude was missed: do others in before they do you in. Come on now! Attitude and Belief! Isn't that what this is all about? Evil is an attitude based on a belief. Whereas, Love is neither an attitude nor a belief. So, in my mind, if you have a belief, it will develop an attitude, the attitude begets an action, the outcome of the action either reinforces the belief or diminishes the belief. And all of that is ego - a covert or overt expression of evil. I read a bumper sticker yesterday: Tolerance is the definition of a man without conviction. That bespeaks so strongly of an ego that wants so desperately to hold onto only one point of view in an effort to be absolutely right about everything. And such an attitude is a springboard for war, destruction, isolationism, and everything but Love. - John

Evil is always the result of a selfish motivation. Jesus said "Live for the sake of others." Evil tyrants, dictators, and evil people sacrifice other people for their own benefit. The way of saints and genuinely good ,and godly people is to sacrifice themselves for the sake of others. To serve others without asking anything in return is the life that Mother Theresa lived. Evil always sacrifices others without regard for the consequences to those that are sacrificed. Goodness always sacrifices and serves others to benefit them without regard to self benefit or profit.

Evil begins when one starts seeing oneself as separate from others and from the world in which we live.

I believe that evil is our obsess belief in free will. Probably 99% of people believe in free will yet there is absolutely no evidence that there is there is such a function in our brains. We live in a determinist world and that includes us and our behavior. The suffering and trying to pin down the offender so we can punish him or her rather than, in addition, looking for the relevant variables which produced the event in the first place, is a waste of time if one is interested in some kind of real change. Religion is the primary promoter of free will and has been through out history. And along with the free will tool for religion came guilt which was also an excellent control device.I know this is not a very popular position, but most people dont know there are many honored and admired scientists who do not believe in free will.

@licplat "So evil is away from God simple as that." As someone who believes God is, well, all that is, 'away from God' can only exist inside one's own mind. Does that mean 'evil' can also only exist inside one's mind? Hmmm... I donno. That's an interesting thought. Will need to chew on that for a while. Thanks, Ronald. Lots of love.

My definition of evil is being away from the ordinance of God. Living in such a pattern that God is never in your thought pattern. Your thoughts become satisfied with worldly things to the point that ego, envy, jealousy will reign in your life.

Evil? Simple, it's Live spelled backwards. Or like darkness, it's simply the absence of Light. Either is in the Mind of the beholder, they are the one experiencing the experience. Light, like Right, shall always prevail and evolution does not really have a personal interest in how long it takes the conscious human race to discover itself.

Evil is the absence of Good. Light is, darkness is not. This is not to say that we won't hurt ourselves in the dark, but it is helpful to know that light has absolute power over darkness. Confucius said,"Forget injuries; never forget kindnesses. We can return goodness for evil. Difficult, but possible. Love, kindness, patience generosity, forgiveness, integrity, humility, dignity, wisdom, are the rays of light, and good. Their absence is evil. We can change; so to be evil today is not an eternal condemnation.

Actions, in my opinion, are the only thing that can be classified as "good" or "evil." People can perform these actions, but cannot be inherently "good" or "evil" because one must consider their moral agency in regard to the moral action, and then only as regards blameworthiness or praiseworthiness for that action. I personally find the word "evil" to be "loaded" in that it carries a lot of baggage that I'd prefer not be attached, so I tend not to use it.
