Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read.

Woody Allen opens up the classic movie Anne Hall with the Groucho Marx joke "I would never want to join the type of club that would have me as a member". He then talks about how this joke symbolizing how he feels about dating. Does anybody else feel like this? Does anybody else love Groucho? Is this just a comment on self esteem, or is there a more basic meaning to not trusting someone who would want to date you?

I always felt that way in high school. The guys I liked didn't like me and the guys that liked me, I didn't like. I think it was self-protection more than anything for me at a time when I felt that I didn't have anything to give back to the world. Once I got a little older and really thought about what I wanted and needed in a partner things got a lot better!

I think Groucho Marx is hilarious. I think the joke is simply saying he just wouldn't want to be friends with someone with similar tastes like him, but I don't think it has to do with dating ..

And a womans best friend is a hand-held shower massage . . .I have wondered about the "not wanting to date anyone who would want to date me thing" as well. The trick is to stay on good behavior until they're stuck with you.
