Never .. questions are signs of intelligent people who want to know more about the world around them. I mean, if you're being silly and purposely asking stupid questions, then yes .. it's foolish .. but for the most part questions are little quests for knowledge and despite anyone's actual intelligence level, they are never foolish.

by definition.. it means you are ignorant to the inquiry... only a fool would accept such ignorance without seeking answers first

I believe asking a question is the quickest way to get an answer. A human mind, by formulating a question, as often simultaneously answering the question! So not to ask is to miss the opportunity to know.

I was very very grateful when a professor in college said that we could ask any question and none was too foolish. That really took the stress out of asking and learning. We were able to say "I didnt understand that" without fear of reprisal and we got a seond chance at understanding. But on the other hand- imagine a reporter on national TV asking the president a stupid ( uninformed, redundant, whatever) question.

I don't think asking a question makes one look foolish. I do think pretending one has the answer when one doesn't is foolish.

Only if it's a foolish question -- something asked just for the sake of asking, or designed to help you avoid going out and finding the answers you are perfectly capable of finding on your own. A wise question is aimed at growth. A foolish question is aimed at stagnation.

i am like you. i like having the answers. but asking questions doesn't mean you're helpless on your own. it just means you want to see other people's opinions. what you do with them is your own business. and even if you are helpless once, it wouldn't make you foolish. it's just human (i know, i hate that verse too "its just human", but in some cases, it's true) peace my friend! ps: do you consider yourself foolish for asking THIS question?

I agree with all the answers below (no, it doesn't make you foolish) - but will give a different viewpoint to balance things out. A question CAN make you look inattentive, lazy or inappropriate. Inattentive: Asking someone for some information that was right there in front of you. Lazy: Asking someone for information you could easily look up. Inappropriate: "How much do you weigh?" PS - Thank God for questions - without them we would have no SoulPancake and nothing to talk about!
