Hejira by Joni Mitchel, here's the last verse...l. We're only particles of change I know, I know Orbiting around the sun But how can I have that point of view When I'm always bound and tied to someone White flags of winter chimneys Waving truce against the moon In the mirrors of a modern bank From the windows of my hotel room.... I'm travelling in some vehicle I'm sitting in some cafe A defector from the petty wars Until love sucks me back that way. Just does it for me every time...it's the poetry, the insight, the stark humanity and the music.

Tangled Up In Blue by Bob Dylan. This song means a lot to me because it's the type of song that really sturs up some feelings. When I here this song I think of freedom. Yet while the character in this song has freedom, in a way he doesn't. He's still trapped by the feelings that he has for a girl. So this song to me means no one is free. Freedom itself isn't free. "I had a job in the great north woods Working as a cook for a spell But I never did like it all that much And one day the ax just fell. So I drifted down to New Orleans Where I happened to be employed Workin' for a while on a fishin' boat Right outside of Delacroix. But all the while I was alone The past was close behind, I seen a lot of women But she never escaped my mind, and I just grew Tangled up in blue."

"You Never Give Me Your Money" by the Beatles "Out of college, money spent, see no future, pay no rent, all the money's gone nowhere to go... and oh that magic feeling, oh where's it go?" Though it sounds quite sad, it really hit the nail on the head with that certain emotion-- where your memories don't match where you currently are, things are changing and everything in the future seems uncertain. I'm a college senior, and right now, and all of this change can be really overwhelming. This song always makes me feel better because it shows that someone has been right there too.

I Shall be Released by Bob Dylan (I like the Band's version & Jack Johnson's too though) It's so pretty and they lyrics are so simple yet they mean so much. They played it at my friend's funeral a couple years back after a freak car accident and this song both makes me smile & cry. And really, isn't that what a song's supposed to do? Ignite thoughts or/and emotions?
