I think that (almost) everything being played on the radio these days is just pure trash. Everything is auto-tuned, by some semi-famous kid, or about "birthday sex." That doesn't mean there is no hope though. Right now in fact I'm listening to Justice's d.a.n.c.e. and it makes me believe that great music is still being made. You just gotta know what you like and try to find some website or some people or a music store that could offer you something you'd enjoy.

I think the music industry will change and the "Real" artists will make music that is timeless...

Music does seem to be over commercialized these days.. it kills the creativity, which is the whole point... I find the best "new" stuff is in the old tracks I've never heard... its new to me anyway...

Oh no. I hear new music all the time that makes my skin crawl with joy. Music is what gets me through the day so i always need knew things. I enjoy anything from Death Metal to Folk type music and I am constantly finding someone that has either done something musically or lyrically that just blows my mind.

There are artists making great new music, unfortunately they aren't the ones getting the most recognition. You really do have to search it out, but have faith!

No it hasn't because i haven't had a chance to get my music out there yet and if i have to be the one to cure the radio i'll do it, because its just being killed everyday by artists who are stabbing art to death.

What I don't understand is how there can be new songs written that are so excellent and yet using the same limited number of notes!

Wow. I think there is a lot of great music today and can not wait to hear new things from each generation. Just because you do not care for it doesn't mean others feel the same way. Maybe you are in an old mind set and expecting music to sound like the music you grew up with....

There's lots of good music around. Lots of brilliant sounds being made. All the time. Always will be. And ,no, thinking that all the best stuff's been written is not something that happens as we get older. I come accross new stuff all the time and I'm 106.

I blame the music industry. I went through a similar dilema awhile back when labels kept signing artists that I felt had no talent and all sounded the same. My advice, paw through your old cd's or look for music that you like but haven't heard in awhile. Eventually it's inevitable that someone will make some bit of music that's new, unique and that you'll enjoy. Wading through endless amounts of talentless copies only brings up resentment and hinders the search for something enjoyable. Perhaps you could even explore older music that you haven't heard, for instance when I hit my "new music is crap" crisis I ended up getting really into Frank Sinatra, Rosemarry Clooney, The Beatles... the list goes on and on... So pretty much when one door closes at the very least you could try opening a window... or something along those lines.

There's an infinite amount of music yet to be made, and I think as long as humans are around, there will be at least some people committed to making good, passionate, meaningful music.

No, but I have gone through periods where no music has interested or spoken to me and the harder I've tried the worse it got. My advice is to stop trying for the moment. Something will come along and floor you eventually and you will appreciate it so much more so then. Fortunately I am currently in a phase where I hear two or three things a week that make me want to lose myself in the genius of them.

I'm sure people even during Mozart's time probably asked the same question. Personally, I think it's arrogant (not that you're arrogant at all for asking this question) to think that our culture has exhausted the last of the creative possibilities in music, literature, etc. Particularly now, at the end of the postmodern age, a time when many artists, authors, and critics were very keen to declare "the death" of every medium they operated in, it seems that perhaps we're outgrowing (or outliving) this sentiment. Artistic mediums such as the novel were declared dead over forty years ago, and yet they remain.

Music is just as alive as we are. Music never dies. People always have soul to share. Think of how many non-famous people there are out there that have so much to say and never get heard. That is just impossible. Music lifts the spirit and just makes ya feel good. And the old music reminds you of things and brings back the past. Music is irreplaceable and will only die when we do.

No, because music, like any other aspect of art, is ever-evolving. Maybe you just haven't widened your horizons to other genres of music. Try listening to Samba, African beats, or even opera.
