You should see art and it should be revealing something about yourself, which you all should be happy about.

Through high school, my art "teacher" made the impression that all art was meant for someone else, and never the artist. If she didn't like it, based on her own biased views, it wasn't art in her book, and therefore, she had the right to be unhappy with it. She sort of taught me, in a way, that art isn't for the soul purpose of making someone else feel something. It's impossible to go through life trying to make someone else happy. I create art for myself, my own self expression, and my own benefit. It's nice when someone else can feel my emotion and is touched by the piece, but it wasn't for them. It was for me. Selfish? Yes. Happy? Maybe. Fulfilled? Always.

Art allows us to let go. We all have so many hang ups as our days move forward. Seeing beautiful photography, or listening to great music opens ones soul. I know that my happiness depends on the beauty all around us. Gods gifts are ours to enjoy. Letting go is the answer to my prayers. Art is true happiness.

Everyone's definition of "happy" is different. For me, the happiness I feel from looking at a work of art changes from piece to piece depending on the artist. I like that feeling of transcendence I get when I'm taken out of my own world and get an intimate glimpse into someone else's perception and values. The only thing that art HAS to be, to my way of thinking, is deeply personal. When an artist is brave and naked and authentic, that makes me happy. The more specifically personal it is, the more universal it becomes.

art should make us feel the entire of spectrum of emotion...not one specific piece, but art in general should have no emotional limit.

Art has a goal of making a statement, so the artist would hope you'd feel some emotion. Happiness isn't always the mood of a piece of art. There are movies, songs, paintings, etc. that make people cry. Many people love a good tear-jerker. Art should be meaningful. It should mean something.

Art definitely has the opportunity to make one feel happiness. Whether that be it's intent or through the viewer's personal tastes and life experiences, art makes us think and helps us find our preeminent emotions. I believe that when we experience art, it evokes thought within us to the point where we add our own meaning to the context, which then produces emotions.

Sure, why not. It also depends on the art. For example, a piece of film art such as "Schindler's List" isn't supposed to make the audience happy. It just depends on what the artist is trying to express.

No. Well, not necessarily. Art should make you feel something. Happy, sad, angry, horny, nostalgic, motivated.....just ....something.

Art should tell a story and in telling that story, makes us feel and makes us think. What exact type of feeling shouldn't matter.

All art cannot make all people happy all the time. Me personally I like "ugly art". Landscapes and still life paintings of flowers don't do it for me. I like art that makes a statement or instills some kind of emotional responce. I personally think art has a responsibility to be more than just "pretty pictures" (although I accept that there's a time and place for such things). Anyone can make something "happy" or "pretty" looking". To me it takes a true artist to get someone thinking, especially about something they wouldn't normally think about.
