"I think therefore I am." Does this apply to God?

No matter how much of it we do, we all do the act of thinking every day if not every second and to act wee must think. Is this true for God. Does God think or does God simply act?

I thought that when Descartes said "I think therefore I am," to say that the only thing you can prove ever in the world is that you exist. Because if you're thinking about existing then you are. Everything else could be imaginary floating butterflies because you can't prove they exist. ...At least that's how my European History teacher explained it. So is this about God thinking, or about the phrase?

God doesn't think, he doesnt really have to. He knows he loves you, he knows what is on your heart. He knows you before you were born. God Knows, not think.

@wanderingWolf Yeah I agree. Thinking in our human terms implies a brain. But if you look at 'existence' and 'thinking' as pointing toward a 'soul', then you're on a closer track to understanding the nature of God. It's not about having a brain, it's about the mind, which is immaterial, non-physical. It is existence independent of the physical. This is why "technically" the "I think therefore I am" statement actually does relate to the nature of God -- because God exists independent of traditional, human definitions of "thought", brain, and existence. He simply is. period. And that also lends itself to the idea that we, humanity, is created in the same pattern as God. Which means life and existence, "who" we are is not about our physical body; our existence is contingent upon thought, the mind -- which leads back to the statement: I think. Therefore, I am.

Is a god capable of having a brain? If not, then a god could not think and therefore not exist.

"I think therefore I am" implies that conscious thought is required in order to exist on a conscious level so, I guess it depends on the nature of God. If you feel that God is conscious and you also follow that idea then yes it does apply to God. If that's true then God must be pretty lonely.

God loves us. Is it possible to love if you cant think?

Awesome question. Perhaps God simply needs to be in order to exist and whatever conscious thoughts God may have end up manifesting themselves as the physical world.
