God and wife?

So I woke up this morning with an "out of the box" thought. I can see how having a child and understanding that relationship helps me understand my "father/son" relationship with God. So what if we hook up with someone so that we can understand the relationship between God and His significant other. I know that most people think that there is only one God and most religions forbid the thought of more than one God, but what if we are wrong? What if there are two running this planet and they have to get along and run it together? That would make sense as to why we were created as half of a whole needed to conceive. I mean if you were God and all alone up there, why would you make a civilization that it takes two to produce? Why not just make people asexual? Or Trisexual if you really want to take this out of the box? Just a thought that entered my mind that I thought would be fun to explore. Try to respond without referring to what you "know" already.....I dare you.

Personally, I like the idea of Father God and the nurturing Earth as Mother -- both necessary to bring us into existence and sustain us physically and spiritually. This is not a typically Christian pov, but comes from a number of years spent in Native belief systems. We do see a lot of physical partnerships in Nature. But I think of the one instance when the religious leaders of the time tried to trick Jesus with a question about partnership (marriage) in the next life. His response was that we asked such questions because we have an incomplete understanding of what is to come. I think there is adequate Scripture to support that we will still know and love those we are partnered with in this life -- but that the partnership then will be between us and Christ -- leading to such analogies as "bride of Christ". Physical analogies are great things to help physical beings understand spiritual things. But I think in a lot of cases our physical existence is like time spent in the womb -- we might wonder and dream about what lies beyond and even come up with a set of pre-conceived notions. But I'm sure the actual reality will probably exceed our grasp by an order of magnitude.

What if we (once we get our act together) are meant to be God's significant other, and all of our spiritual running around is us trying to figure out how to get along and run it together? There are those curious Scriptural references to the church being like Christ's bride. I like audiosuchi's comment about the collaborative nature of partnership being somehow related to a potential Godly "partnership" that could be going on.

I think this is a really interesting question! In one of the responses, dualistic polarity was mentioned. Hasn't this usually been address by the "God/Devil" polarity? I like thinking about this in terms of "partnership" moreso than "God/Devil" or "good/evil" polarity. Someone else mentioned the sex thing. I personally don't like thinking that's relevant (since sex seems "pleasurable" for the purpose of GETTING people to procreate - in an attempt to seek personal pleasure for themselves, it's the "easy" part of it all). But I like thinking about the collaborative nature of partnership being somehow related to a potential Godly "partnership" that could be going on. A great partnership (marriage being one of these) can be so creative, productive and collaborative, through all kinds of circumstances, not just the bodily-pleasurable ones. This is really interesting to think about. Many thanks to the person who posted this question, I love it!

Cool question. It seems in this life every 'attribute' has a dualistic polarity (light, dark. fast, slow. father, son. husband, wife, and so on and so forth). And if an opposite isn't present in this world, I attribute that quality to a higher power. The result? Something that's omnipotent, immortal, and invincible. Now what purpose would a wife serve to an infinitly self-sufficient essence? -- Or on a more tangible scale, this life as we know it (humanity, the universe, etc.)? Frankly, I think that's beyond our comprehension.

We are experiencing life in a dualistic way therefore we experience the yin/yang male/female (half of a whole needed to conceive) on this plane. I can see you experiencing your senario playing out on another plane.

Have you had that godly experience during sex? Where you got all warm and saw the world through a pale yellow filter? And the air felt completely ionized and electric and it was running through you? If so, perhaps you are absolutely right that God created the experience for us so that we could understand their existence better. Also, perhaps it's the other way around. Maybe humans have always had this ability and through it created God and religion. And does it really matter?
