It's a tie between Rocky Horror Picture Show and Wicked. Idina Menzel's voice in wicked was amazing, but Rocky Horror, is...well...Rocky Horror. Both are amazing, but for completely different reasons.

Wicked. I've always been a Wizard of Oz fan, and the relationship between Glinda and Elphaba is wonderful. Nevermind the brilliant technical aspects of the show. Wow. There are moments in that show that could make your heart stop. In a good way.

Wait, spoke too soon... Hedwig and the Angry Inch! Such a great musical and one of the most all time amazing performances (musical or other) by John Cameron Mitchell. The music is amazing, the performances are amazing, the costumes are amazing, the story & dialog are amazing. Interesting that both of my favorite musicals have to do with artists and the challenges of loving an artist. Guess I can relate to that. I think Hedwig speaks to the struggle to truly know oneself and accept oneself in essence, past all of the trappings of the material world, beyond success or status, beyond gender, in truth. Beautiful and soulful. If you rent the DVD, I highly recommend watching the making of. I was blown away by the evolution of the story and the performance, true art.

Other ones I like include "Sound of Music," "Rent," "Fiddler on the Roof," and "Hairspray." I also have a soft spot for "Repo: The Genetic Opera," but it's not a favorite of mine by any means.

Probably Mamma Mia. There are a lot of musicals that I love (I wish life were a musical!) but this is just an absolute joy! I've seen the movie version and am blown away by the way ABBA was used to tell a cohesive story. I thought the actors, like Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan, were excellent. Also loved Amanda Seyfried, who sings beautifully and is absolutely goddess-like gorgeous! Maybe she'd like to go out with me...
