Happy is weaved in my tapestry of emotions, but it's not a consistent state of being. I think it isn't supposed to be, despite what commercials would have you believe.

I would maintain that happiness is a transitory thing, a reaction to outside stimuli. We say that "something" "makes" us happy; or "something" "makes" us sad. How powerful those outside "somethings" are over us! Perhaps a better question might be "Are you joyous?". I maintain that joy is deep-seated, coming from far within us. It is not dependent upon outside stimuli -- the "somethings" that by their presence or absence control how we feel. Being joyful is a choice. It can happen just as easily in the presence of anything and everything -- or in the absence of anything everything. An event can make me transitionally sad, without eradicating my underlying joy in life. And from this position of power I will be in a better position to reach out into the sad areas of life and try to do something positive about them.
