There's only two songs. Green Day's "Good Ridance" (Time of your Life), and Carrie Underwood's "Just a Dream" I think that's the name of it... no one event attached to the Carrie Underwood one... it's just a terrible song, well the music is good and she sings it beautifully but the lyrics turn me into a big ol ball of tears... (my husband's in the Army)... ugh... and when my husband was in training they played that song on the radio constantly... they even played it twice in a row once... while I was at work... and I cry every time I hear that song. The worst part is I know it's not a bad song... it's just the thought of having something like what the lyrics talk about happen is just unbearable.

It doesn't happen that often to me, personally... but my girlfriend will tell me to skip tracks all the time because they make her think of her ex, haha. He wasn't a pleasant dude, it seems. I don't mind thinking about my ex every once in a while, she was nice!

Yeah... it's bad but it's the only thing left I have from that memory so I like hearing it... It's "Fix You" by Coldplay... It's a complete interpretation of the events surrounding my grandmother's death... When I hear it, I can't help but feel close to her or at least a period in time where my emotions were so raw and most exposed towards her. I've become numb over the years and have moved on with my life but when I hear that song, it forces me to stop and go back in time and focus solely on her and that's not a bad thing. I think it's amazing how a song can quiet literally trace your actions sometimes...

Actually it's an artist. I have a hard time listening to Underoath because of the bad memories attached to them regarding an old ex friend. He helped turn me on to them, and we listened to them all the time together. We were best friends for 6 years, and then he did something terrible to me and never apologized. After a week or so I approached him and told him that I forgave him and wanted to move on as friends, but he just walked away. I guess I'm better off without him, but it's never a good feeling to be completely blindsided and betrayed by your best friend. So that's why Underoath is "ruined" for me.

Thats the power of music for you... It can make you feel everything. But its that kind of thing I love in music. Even if its a bad memory I still like the way it makes me think of something. There's a certain song that conjures up really sad feelings of my mom who passed away from cancer. But I listen to it anyway because I'd rather feel sad then to forget about my mom.

There's a lot of songs I have difficulty listening to. Mostly because I associate a lot of songs with certain people. Due to events that have happened since then, I do not wish to be reminded that things aren't as they once were. But I think I am slowly getting better from separating music from memories, because it would be sad to not listen to large amounts of quality music because your memories are interfering with your enjoyment of the music. It's difficult, but possible, to separate music from memories. Unfortunately, you can't worry about "ruining" music for yourself in the future, because then you'll never enjoy it to begin with.
