Presumably it is God who doles out this punishment? "Here, son/daughter I give you life. If you see it as a gift you are deluding yourself ! I am punishing you with this thing called life because there will come a day when I take it from you-just like that! On that day I will cause you to die but don't for a split second think that you are special, I do the same thing to everything I create. I kill it all because it all desrves to be punished.Everything deserves to die. That is why I make it all- you included so that I can get my own back on you.Vengeance is mine says the Lord." "But what have I done, God to deserve this torment?" "You have been created , silly, that's enough!" Look at any newborn baby, leaf, blade of grass closely enough and then tell me it has been made for punishment. Look at what our world does with them and then perhaps we can start discussing punishment.

Never a punishment in my eyes... Its a blessing of a sort... The higher power taks you when it needs u... All a cycle of enery, all a small ring that we all fit into... The punishment could possibly lie in HOW you die though... Pain is punishment...

No. I consider death, no ,atter how final, terrifying, unfair to be yet a transference of ourlife energies on toward the next plain of conciousness.

Only if it comes prematurely. Life is the greatest 'gift' so if we destroy it by bringing death, it is punishment for our actions. Natural death however, no.

Death is a moment in time, an unusual moment but nonetheless only a moment- a heartbeat-an exhillation. If you are suffering or in pain it might come more as a blessing than a punishment. Nature gets on with it and constantly renews itself by it. Death comes to all living things in due season. We either respect and reverence it or fear and try to control it and depending on which way we respond to it we define ourselves as persons and affirm how we think and thus perceive and relate to all other life forms on the planet. Our relationship with Death must be a big factor in determining our world view. It certainly is a biggie in determining what sort of societies we create eg if we did not to see it as a punishment the arms race would cancel itself immediately .A genuine appreciation of Death apparently gives an even greater appreciation of Life. Death gets a very bad press. If anything it is us who punish ourselves by not questioning societal "norms" such as Death is a bad thing.

Death is the conclusion of life. It's inevitable. How can we consider something inevitable a punishment?

If I believed death was a punishment, which doesn't even make any sense to me, then I would believe every person ever born was going to be punished. I think most people could agree with that, so my question to the poster is: why, do you? Death is preparation for the next life.
