....take me back to where the music lives. This music park is amazing. I would live there all year long if possible. The sound of the music carrying down the river through the Spanish moss is delightful. Down by the stages at night the Spanish moss draped trees become magical forests full of hammocks, dancing lights, hooping and poi.

Normally the metal bridge in the bottom of the picture is going through the supports that are in the water. You can walk out over the lake and at night when you look right, you see the lights of the steel mill (which are actually quite beautiful) when you look left you see Chicago's iconic Navy Pier. If you look straight ahead, however, you see nothing but black water and a faint horizon. My soul is so happy there, because it gives me everything or nothing - at just the moment I want it. Add to that the water hitting the rocks and the white spray beneath your feet and the littlest bit of fear at being over the choppy water on a steel bridge and you have, for me, a slice of what I hope heaven feels like.

I go to this camp every year, and it's become sort of the most important thing in ym life. Although it's one week out of 52, it is by far the most important week. It takes place in this tiny po-dunk town in the middle of Missouri, and it is beautiful.

Kenya is the home to my soul. I visited earlier this year for two weeks. I was on a trip so work with those infected with AIDS. It was here that I discovered the joy of sunshine and dirt, raw, undeveloped spaces, breakfast on the porch, and most importantly how wonderful it felt to do things for others. It was here that I discovered my life's path. I was never happier than when I was there.
It is here that my soul will always be.

Hamilton Train Station in Trenton, New Jersey. I had a long distance relationship for a few years, and this was the station where I'd pick him up and drop him off. It was filled with so much love and joy and then sadness and heartache. But, it's where I would get to see him for the first time in weeks. I visited there a few weeks ago, and the feelings haven't left. My soul is still there, and always will be.

I was regretting it after 20 minutes. We spent 9 to 12 hours on the road every day, traveling from fremont, nebraska, all the way to san jose, california and back... In a chevy malibu. I had the backseat and I transformed it into the best little fort i could. We had decided to stop in livingston, montana to visit my mom's friends family. We were stationed in a cabin in a the middle of the mountains. Coming from flat nebraska...what candy for my eyes this place was. Beautiful and untouched by man. I felt such a presence of amazing energy there. We were there for 3 days and on the last day something told me to get up and go to the window across the cabin. I was almost asleep but I always follow my gut. The second I gazed out the window...three shooting stars! The first one lit up the entire sky, then in it's exact path, two smaller ones... it brought me to tears. Maybe they weren't comets. It truely felt like something was communicating with me. I decided to go back for my 21st birthday. My mom suggested vegas, but that's not my thing. Montana feels like home, and I'm getting chills just typing this. I miss it so much. It calls for me.

To be fully accurate, I should say that this is somewhere that the current incarnation of my soul enjoys, because I'm a mountain guy. But what does my Soul think about that high country? I'm not really sure. . . To find out where my old, multi-lived soul feels most at home, I'll probably need the help of a Spirit Guide, or some Concierge Bodhisattva, who can 'see' where all my previous incarnations have resided. Maybe 20 of those lives were strongly bound to Kiev (like Laraffinee), and almost none in Colorado. How would my small mortal mind be able know this now? I've never even been to Kiev! So, if Soul Pancake could please start a new type of Travel Agency, that could utilize contract Spirit Guides to make soul-based recommendations of places that my old soul would enjoy returning to (because its clueless mortal shell has little insight) - then I think we would all be much happier getting some soulful travel advice that's better than Rick Steves. In many ways I envy that opportunity for almost none exist in my lifetime, unless you go further North... "Way up North where the Eskimos go..." But I digress... ( please excuse my shameless Frank Zappa reference) I learned to skate here... I learned about love and sex here... I learned about drugs, alcohol, and excess here, but then I also learned regret, humility, and restraint here. It is one of a few places in this world that can bring me to tears just being there. I identify with it, it is a part of my soul, and it is where I want my ashes cast to the wind when I give up the ghost of this corporeal vessel.

Being from Ontario, Canada, I've only ever been to Manhattan twice in my life. After my first visit in 2007, I can honestly say that I thought about going back at least once daily. Last summer I finally got to go back, dragging my mom along for the ride. As she and I entered the city via taxi from JFK, I was the most happy/content I had been in who knows how long. Most people would be excited upon entering such a grand city, taking in the sights on the ride in but that wasn't me. I actually fell asleep in the taxi, I was so comfortable. People might see the city as a corporate wasteland but I find the city incredibly inspiring. It's the home of artists of all kinds. Writers, painters, dancers, singers, film makers, sculptors, designers, etc. When I am there, I can't help but feel inspired. It definitely helps that I am about a million times luckier when I am there. Good things happen, I get what I want, and I've had success there, too. I just know that when I finally move there, things will work out for the best.

New Orleans, LA Born in NOLA. We moved across the lake (Pontchartrain) when I was small, but since NOLA was only about 45 minutes away, spent good part of my life there. Don't live there anymore, but a strange thing happens every time I return. When I stand in front of St. Louis Cathedral, I actually feel a transformation. The smells, the mood, the history all fuse together and permeate the air so thickly that it becomes a part of me, replacing the blood in my veins, and I feel Alive! My soul feels home. I miss NOLA being a part of my life. A lot of us seem to struggle with picking one place, I'm no exception (and I hope there is a place still undiscovered). But if I have to settle for one, it would be Mentone, Alabama. Happy things include: - Place of retreat w/ my family since I was a little girl. - Transforming a hatred into a friendship w/ my older sister. - Finding myself. - Learning from people and what their purpose is in my life. - Countless drunken memories that are book worthy and hilarious beyond words. - Creating a few friendships/bonds w/ my NOW lifelong friends. - Saying, "I love you" for the first time to someone. - The beauty and generosity of my grandmother and grandfather. - Realizing when I'm making a memory at the EXACT time I'm making it.

The only other place my heart seems to yearn for me to be, is Ireland (and I have no idea why since I've never been there and am adopted so I have no idea if I have Irish ancestry that would compell me so). It would be easy to say that Disneyland makes me feel that way because it's all sugar and talking robot animals and balloons and pixies, but growing up in Northern California (back when interstate 5's speed limit was a strictly enforced 55 miles per hour, average vehicle gas mileage was probably like 6MPG and Southwest Airlines weren't even a twinkle in someone's eye yet), the thousands of actual dreams that closed the distance between us, were never about those things. There is something about the details and the artistic signatures of the people who worked on putting that park together, that connected with me on a level I have never been able to duplicate. And now, as an adult, I have come to understand that part of the appeal is not only in the decor, the staging or the "show". It's a feeling of a freedom I am still not fully able to afford... travel. My suspension of disbelief isn't as strong as it once was, believe me; but I still enjoy that feeling of not being "trapped" or "doomed" to staying in one place, or one time, or one experience indefinitely. A bonus to the warmth I feel, comes from also rembering that it was one of the few places where my family were all kind to one another(/me), and where my otherwise extremely angry mother, was happy and playful. It's also the place where I discoved my love of music and art and inspired me to create with joy. I could list more reasons, but really... I think that's plenty.

Every inch of the property holds a special memory for me, so it would be hard to pin down exactly why I think my soul resides there, but I'm pretty sure it does. Or I think that my soul at least has the same vibe as Slater Park (the cabin and surrounding area) - if that makes sense. :)

Like the city is wrapping its arms around me and holding me. There is something special about that place... The people too. They're real! They aren't trying to impress anyone, they're not trying to be something they're not. Living in California for over FIVE years now, I see first hand how different, how out of touch people are here. But when I walk down that beach, I feel like I'm walking to the end of the earth. It continues to get narrower and narrower until the beach ends and the water begins. When I was a child, I imagined that I was walking off of the edge of the earth, into the greater unknown. It's still one of the simplest, calmest places I know and love.

Like many, the ocean soothes and inspires and grounds me all at once, and I really feel most at peace whenever I am nearest to it, but this particular place is where I got to connect with the ocean most frequently during vacations as a child and vacations / weekend getaways as an adult. It saddens me I live so far from this my favorite of shores these days, but I'm making it a goal to find my way back and be closer to this place I love above all others. I know balls to bone it truly is my soul's home.

I like to think however that I would be at rest here. I'm as Western-Anglo (not Anglican mind you) as you can get, but my soul is at rest in the slavic world. Sochi is my balancing point between small town, safety, slavic and peacefulness. If I could practice my Russian, enjoy the sun, visit the wonders of the far east and still be able to see Canada play hockey in Sochi at the 2014 Olympics then I can truly say my soul would be at home.

Lived in this town for the first nine years of my life and return annually (many decades now). Something about Seewall and Wonderland areas south of the town that put me on the edge of this world and the next. Everything then becomes surreal and profoundly spiritual. I come here to express gratitude, to pray, and set goals...and often to weep for all the sadness in the world.

Those were the best days of my life, and though I was terrified of Spanish classes (don't ask), it is there where I made the most important memories of my life. My closest friends, my first love and kiss, my first acting experience, my first real fight with a friends, and tons more things. It's been 5 years since I've returned home, and I think I can't really lead a satisfying life right now because I'm still strongly attached to my time there. I SO desperately want to go back there, it's really unhealthy. It's just a bittersweet relatioship.

It is where I feel free, where I can touch the sky and have my feet firmly planted in the red dirt and feel the humid breeze and see beauty all around me. It is where I want to be whenever I am happy, whenever I am sad.

During the Fall of 2005 I took a semester abroad in London. It was one of the most exciting and challenging experiences in my life. I was living overseas, with very limited funds, with 6 roommates, and trying to make the best use of my time in this amazing place. I fell in love with London. There's something about the city, the energy, the people, the history, the public transportation...it all just "fit" for me. I learned a lot about myself and became a lot more comfortable in my own skin there. Even though it's been almost four years since then, I still miss it.

We go every couple of years. It's on the east coast but because it is on an inlet we have beautiful sunsets over the water, just magical. One time we had a full moon so bright we it was almost like day time, we played the song dancing in the moonlight and I danced with my kids! It brings me to tears just thinking about it. We are going back again this summer. Can't wait. This is what life is about, right?
